I am moving to St Croix in Feb. w/2 kids and I am wondering if they will be safe in public schools or not? Any help with this would be appreciated. Also, hello everyone! Glad to be a part of your forum.

I would like to add that I hope this question dose not offend any one. It's just that I am being told that children that are not islanders have a hard time and that private schools are a better choice. I personally despise that train of thought and take great pride in teaching my kids about diversity and culture. That's one of the reasons I chose to move to the VI, but these are my kids and I have to ask. Thanks all.

Hi Anotherjo

It is very important that you clearly understand what is happening in the VI public schools. There have been dozens of lengthy discussions about schools on this forum. Go to the top of the page and use the SEARCH function do a search for "schools" or public schools" for at least the past year. You should find a few hours of reading.

There are many problems with the VI public schools and you will find that you will be told to put your children in private schools, regardless of the cost. and ..The cost is very high. If your children are young( 2nd 3rd grade) then they might adjust to the unique schools here. If they are older, you will be told NO.. that it will not work out.

Please read and do your research.

For a variety of reasons, I don't believe it is feasible for you to plan to come down and put your kids in public schools. At the very least, I would come down planning to put them in private schools until you were here for a while and could decide for yourself if public schools would fit your needs.

If you cannot afford private school, at least until the end of this school year, I would reconsider moving to the VI. As Ms Information said, this topic has been discussed to death, do a search for previous posts.
