The V.I. Public Services Commission will conduct public hearings on the V.I. Water and Power Authority's petition to increase the base rates for electricity service.

The Hearing Examiner has issued a Second Amended Notice of Public Hearing and Invitation to Public to Comment, which is available at the Public Services Commission Offices on St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix; the full notice also can be obtained from the Public Services Commission's website at www.psc.gov.vi.

- On St. Thomas, the public is invited to attend the hearings from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 4-6 at the Public Services Commission's office at Barbel Plaza. Members of the public can testify from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Barbel Plaza office.

- On St. John, members of the public are invited to testify on from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Legislature's Hearing Room in Cruz Bay.

- On. St. Croix, members of the public are invited to testify from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the conference room at the St. Croix Curriculum Center.

Hearings about WAPA's case to change the base rates for water service already have taken place. However, the Public Services Commission will allow anyone wishing to testify about the water base rates case to do so at the electric base rates case hearings.

Those who wish to testify should notify Tisean Hendricks at 776-1291 or thendricks@psc.gov.vi on or before Tuesday.

Persons wishing to testify are asked to submit written testimony by Tuesday by fax to 774-4971, by email to thendricks@psc.gov.vi, or in person at the Public Services Commission's offices at Barbel Plaza on St. Thomas or the Sunny Isle Professional Building on St. Croix. Written submissions will be forwarded to all parties.

WAPA's petitions and the direct and rebuttal testimony can be obtained directly from the Public Services Commission's website. All documents also are available at the Public Services Commission's offices and can be reviewed there by the public.

Nobody showed up for the public hearing on St John and one person showed up for the hearing on St Thomas.

Kind of pointless to go there to be heard when most in the government don't know how to listen... Then again, you can do a karaoke with them and sing "I Will Survive"....

Sorry for trolling... I find it insulting that they want to raise the cost again...

Why bother going to these sham meetings? WAPA and the PSC really couldn't care less what you and I think because they are going to do what the bondholders tell them anyway.

Actually, going to PSC meetings does help and it has done so before.
We would be paying import fees on all goods coming into islands had the tariff/tax been allowed by PSC for WMA a couple yrs ago.
If you can't make it, you can submit a fax or e-mail outling your stance and concerns. Speak up or shut up.
