The person who handles all the complaints for Pueblo is Helen Waite.

The owner found out he had to pay WAPA instead of stealing electric, so he figures he`ll steal from usinstead!

Just a theory!!!
I also understand WAPA is ready to hike up our bills to subsidize Pueblos in the event he gets off scott free(just like we subsidize the governments)!

I agree, the constant price increases there outrageous(and don`t the other markets don`t know/notice, they will soon collude).
I have had the Pueblo boycott song in my head for some time while shopping there"
Pueblo pueblo Pueblo, the prices are too high, don`t go inside, dee price is high,Pueblo pueblo Pueblo me aint gonna buy!

This is why i suggested a co-op!
And Pam agreed to help!<<Thanks Pam!

I would like a collective effort made by many to make this happen(I work 10 hour days, 6 days a week, I can`t do this myself w a couple volunteers).

I stopped at Pueblo because it was on the way home. The prices are OUTRAGEOUS. And another shopper in there was complaining that a bag of dog food is TEN dollars more at Pueblo than other places. I feel sorry for people that must shop there due to no transportation.

yes the pet food prices there are outrageous. i am going to boycott pueblo. but i may go in one more time and ask for manager and show him the prices i know to be much higher then surrounding stores.

they do have the monopoly because of the project accross the street. and i think that is so unfair. those people maybe can not afford transporation but they have to pay higher prices for their food.

wonder if consumer affairs is aware of their higher pricing???

i think a boycott outside the store could be effective. what do you think?? i would do it.

50 cents a can more for the same dog food:X makes me soooooooooooooo mad!!!!!

Why does this have anything to do with Consumer Affairs? Are they not free to set their prices? Just don't shop there...I don't shop as it stinks (literally), is overpriced, and is generally terrible. This isn't a big deal, it isn't like your tax dollars are going there, just ignore them by not shopping there...got to Plaza/Cost U Less instead!

I suspect they will close their doors eventually now that they have to pay for Wapa and hopefully we can get a better store in, maybe even a stateside chain that knows how to run a supermarket correctly (not holding my breath)! There is a HUGE opportunity for someone who has any inkling of how to run a grocery store to make a ton of money here on island.

Kudos to stiphy for point out the obvious. A "boycott outside the store?" You're not seriously suggesting that we have a picket line because canned tuna went up by a couple dimes. Gourmet Gallery is way more expensive than anywhere else on island, should we protest them as well? I appreciate you letting the rest of the board know about the prices rising so they in turn can make informed decisions, but to be that vexed over grocery prices, wow, life is just too short in my humble opinion.

Gourmet Gallery pays VERY high rent where they're located & also keep exceptionally clean stores with high end merchandise. You can't say the same about cleanliness at most of the others.

I went to Food Town when my daughter was visiting to get some formula for my grandson. One small can of Good Start powdered formula was $60.00. I turned around and walked out and have never been back.

Gourmet Gallery is certainly clean and well stocked and just last week 4 exact items that I purchased there were cheaper than Sub Base Pueblo.

Tam, What's the normal price for the formula? Just curious.

I love the staff at Food Town. After almost 3 years, the deli staff have started to act like they know who I am. Funny...my husband asked for oven roasted turkey, and they told him I like golden brown. Go figure...you never know who's paying attention.

Their prices can be very high, or normal, just depends on the product. They are just down the road from us, so it's my convenience store.

The manager/owners are great, and the checkers are the BEST on island, IMHO.

Jaunita it is about $27.00 at Walmart or local grocery stores in the southeast states and I think I payed $32.00 at Kmart here on stx but that was for a large can. The can at Food Town was very small. I told someone else about it recently and they said it had to be a mistake. The can had a price on it and there was a price on the shelf so I don't know if someone mispriced it or not. I was so shocked I just walked out.

Wow! Big difference. That's why I was wondering if it was a mistake. Not that FT is shy about charging high prices, but that just seems really over the top.

In 10 yrs of living here I can count on one hand the times I've been in Pueblo. They are both awful, dirty, mismanaged stores. It has nothing to do with prices as I really don't pay that much attention. I just get a bad vibe in Pueblo. Food Town is convienient, courteous and has a pretty good, fresh selection for a small store. Clean and courteous goes a long way for me!

For shopping we go to CostUless first then Plaza for the balance. It's ALL expensive!!

It is unfortunate for all the people in the projects that must shop at Pueble due to transportation but,.....how much is a taxi van? Maybe they could save enough to pay the fare?? Keep in mind that many are paying with food stamps so maybe Pueblo figures they may not watch prices as if it were cash...?

Pueblo is owned by a stateside chain, World Fresh Market, Chicago, one of the stores:

When they first opened here, the prices were lower, there were new brands offered as well.

I was told they would`t be able to keep the prices from the owners of a competing store.
I asked why, they are %30-%50 more than the states.

He said, no, it`s the theft here!

That explains why we are treated like children everywhere we go & have our bags/receipts checked!

I think it`s the white,light/tan people like myself that is mostly responsible for this theft!
It does have a effect on everyones food bill(even the few that actually pay for it, like me).
