Are there any restrictions regarding farm animals in R1 zoned homes? We have a rooster in our neighborhood that is waking us up at 4:00 - 5:00AM each day. Thank you. Is there anything we can do?

We discovered, shortly after moving in, our neighbors raised roosters. Didn't hear a "peep" out of them when we came to look at the house, perhaps they had their beaks taped shut during our walk-through 😉 Upon moving in, we heard them constantly ... lots of them ... crowing at all hours ... and chickens squawking wildly after they laid an egg or something. I noticed they seemed to have a game of answering each other ... one would crow, and another would answer back .... and it went on and on an on and on. I started to recognize the different crowing techniques, there was one that sounded just like he was crowing through a kazoo! I peeked over the fence down into their yard and saw the cages ... HOLY SHCRAP! We chose the bedroom on the furthest end of the house, away from the roosters.

The good news: eventually, we never even noticed them crowing ... it became 'background' noise that we no longer heard. They've since stopped raising them, but one morning a stray had flown over the fence and was outside our window, bright and early ... giving us our wake-up crow. Apparently, he couldn't figure out how to get back over the fence and wanted us to know he was stuck and couldn't get back. 🙂 They seem to be everywhere ... I think it's just a part of island life.

Soooooooooooooooo .... if the foul noise maker (pun intended) doesn't leave, perhaps you will get to the point where you don't notice it any more. We also have a fan attached to the window that drowns out the sounds that keep me from sleeping ... dogs barking, really loud frogs, and the occasional rooster.

LOL, easy way to get a rooster to stop crowing is to slaughter it. But I used to work for Frank Perdue so maybe that's just me! We had like 120 roosters trapped in our neighborhood last year. It helped for sure. I think they took them to someone on a farm who looks after them.

i think chickens are considered "pest control" not farm animals. they are all over.....we have hens so they don't make noise....just eggs.
