RE TAX Bill
The 2008 tax bill is being mailed as I write , pay early and get a discount8-)
Very interesting wording on the 2008 real property tax bill. "Pay by the due date of August 20, 2011 and receive early payment discounts. Pay before October 15, 2011 to avoid becoming delinquent. To avoid late payment charges pay by January 20, 2012 (ACT 7241)."
Then at the end of first paragraph: "If you have outstanding property taxes, they are listed on the reverse side of this bill." Foolish me, I turned the sheet over to see that I am delinquent in paying tax year 2003. I don't know what to do? Should I take in the signed/stamped receipt for when I paid that bill on July 30, 2004 and risk hurting someone feelings, or just pay it again?
I'm going to pay before August 20th just to see how many "payment discounts" I am awarded. I'm guessing they will have a wheel to spin to determine the actual number and types of discounts you get. Wish me Luck!
Did they revert back to the values prior to the 2006 re-assessment? Our mortgage company paid the '06 and '07 tax bills from an escrow after we purchased the home in '08, now the '08 bill is sent to us and doesn't include any assessed improvement just the land assessment.
I am once again baffled at the government's ability to do anything.
For clarification about the discount. It's 5% discount if paid before Aug. 5!
Property owners paying their 2008 property tax bills before the due date of August 20, 2011 will receive early payment discounts. Persons who pay their 2008 tax bill by August 5th will be entitled to a 5% early payment discount. Persons paying their tax bill after that date and before the due date will receive a discount of 2.5%. The bills become delinquent if not paid by October 20, 2011. Property owners are encouraged to pay the 2008 tax bill by January 20, 2012 in order to avoid late payment fees.
Paid yesterday and everything went smoothly. Computer record was updated again, just like it was updated in 2007, to reflect the 2003 payment. Hold on to your receipts . . . forever! Next billings for tax year 2009 will be mailed out in November 2011. Something to look forward to.
