I can make a recommendation right now about the Settler's Handbook. Its worth every penny. Its a great reference book for immediate and future questions. I read it cover to cover and now my well-used/worn copy is picked up frequently as I need to check on different services or reacquaint myself with some valuable piece of information. I've seen different revisions and the last version I got demonstrates that they're always adding content and updating existing content.

We just got our copy, and I finished it last night. Don't know if we will ever make the move, but the book was worth it even if we don't. If we do it was REALLY worth it.

Ann,
My wife and I went thru two editions preparing for our move to STX. It (like this message board) is a great tool.

Do you think if I am planning to move at the beginning of next March (2006) I should wait for the next edition? How much changes from year-to-year?

Hello Meg,

The Settlers Handbook is not updated every year, but rather every two or three years. The edition currently out was just updated and released in November 2004.
