Hello,

My Best Friend and I are looking to relocate somewhere, and the VI is our first choice. We are both in the hospitality field, he is a chef and I am a Restaurant manager. You should know that we have never been to the VI and I don't think time will allow us to get there before we need to move. I do understand that it will be a major change form Orlando Fl and I am not closed minded to the fact that i am just jumping into this idea. A side from the obvious that we have not visited the Isalnds could someone give ideas on where to look for housing or some good sites to read read up on. I am strting my research know and have been giving this much thought. Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Dustin,

I have spent this past year preparing for my move to STX and I would suggest lookign thru this forum completely. Look at the past post and search every topic you can think of. This site offers some good advice and is extremely helpful. The Settlers Handbook is useful as well, but I haven't found very much nonliterary material on the islands.

I hope you are aware the jobs on the island pay low and its on the expensive side to live there. But since the whole economy is based off of tourism you or your friend shouldn't have a problem finding a service industry job.

There is not another site like this one that will have the amount of information this one does. Islanders site is unique so far. So research the board thourghly, you will find much more information in here then in the settler's handbook, although that is a good overview. To find housing you really need to be on island. It is extremely hard to find a landlord willing to take a chance on someone who is living stateside. Plan to stay in a hotel type place for a week to a month while you find housing. If you're coming in summer you will probably only need a week if you're coming in winter you will need the month and alot of prayer.
