As cliche as it sounds, I am considering relocating to the beautiful Virgin Islands! I am from Maine and vacationed down there a year ago and fell in love with St. John!

I have started the process of researching a move. I am finding the research process more difficult than i expected! I would welcome any advice/information I should consider and any resources re: employment, accommodations, transportation, etc.

I work in Human Resources, but have a background in Activity and Event planning at a local YMCA.

Thank you for your input!

K.

Plenty of info right here! Just click on Virgin Islands Moving Center top left. Lots of FAQs and some moving stories. Quite worth the read!

Hi K,

My husband and I vacationed on STJ a year ago and also fell in love with the island. Our house is for sale and we will relocate when we sell it. Since the year past I have visited the island two more times to continue to look around and get ideas for expenses ect. Just got back several days ago actually! It was great and I now feel I have a good handle on what it will take for the two of us to move. You will find from the message board that people don't really move to STJ because of the cost as compared to STX or STT. Extra digging around may be necessary and another visit might be in order. I will be happy to answer any of your questions with the info I have learned. Good luck and maybe we will meet up for Sunday brunch one day on STJ!

Yo, I'm another former resident of Southern Maine. I moved here STX in October. So far I don't miss anything about Maine .I working as a facility manager and just recieved my permits to build a home on land I've owned for a long time, I'm still psyched about STX and the endless summer.
Good luck with your move.

Terry it took about 6 months for the entire process. Survey, Plans. Submittal, Review and approval. You haveto stay all over it or the process will get screwed up and take more time.

Hello Katelimea,

Additional resources... you might read the local papers online. The St. John Tradewinds is at http://www.stjohntradewindsnews.com/. Pick up some books like the Settlers Handbook which is a guide to moving/living in the USVI. Desiring Paradise is a book written by a couple that moved to St. John, they talk about their experiences. You can find those books at http://www.vitraders.com.

HR & activity/event planning on St. John... how about contacting Westin and Caneel Bay Resorts for possible employment.
