*I have just recently visited St. Thomas in the beginning of June. My friend and I have thought seriously on moving to the island sometime in September if possible. I even had plans on attending U.V.I. in 2000, but was overwhelmed and nervous about moving. Now I'm 22 years old and ready, but still questionable on things such as jobs/living. We are both in the process of our PADI certifications as well as bartending school. I have read the message boards and researched many websites pertaining to the V.I. which I have found very helpful. I was curious about the availability of jobs related to scuba/bartending on St. Thomas as well as lodging for 2 people. I have seen many threads relating to this topic, but I appreciate any feedback for my situation. Thank you

Get the Settler's Guide. Also, most people find temporary housing when they first move here than look for a place once here. You will find most rentals in the Island Trader. You will want to look at the rental before committing to living there for any length of time. There are several short term places to stay - Island View Guest House, Crystal Palace, www.stthomasvirginisland.com

September is low season and people are just beginning to move here for the high season so once here you should be able to find a job.

Thank you Donna, I have in fact already ordered the relocation kit with the traveler's guide. Still curious on nightlife/bartending job.... would that pay well enough to live.

Hello Luke,

You will find dive and bartending work during season (high season starts around late November/early December through May). If you find work at a busy bar or resturant you can do well. Check out the Cost of Living section for estimates on rental cost.
