Relocating

Hi,

I am in the process of researching moving to the VI's. I am a single 32 year old male disabled veteran(11 years active duty Marine Corp) living in Michigan with no kids and looking to relocate and start fresh in my life after everything I have been through the past few years.

I have disability checks that I get every month and will also have full medical coverage, so with that and some kind of job...should I be able to survive? Being that I am single and will only have to take care of myself and might have a friend come with me so might be able to split the bills.

I am able to work with my disability and have a college degree in aviation management. Honestly though i would be willing to do anything too get started down there.

Since I am a veteran I would have to be a VA hospital which there are on the islands.

I am just starting my research and will probably have more questions. Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks
Anthony

There isn't any VA hospital in the VI. The nearest is in Puerto Rico.

Hi,

I called my health insurance company which is tricare. I would be enrolled in a program named "tricare overseas" so looks like I am covered medically wise on the islands.

Do you think $5,000 is enough for relocation savings for a single guy?

Hi there!

There is a VA clinic in Barron Spot on St. Croix. They have a general pract. on site. They then refer you to doctors on island that can take care of you. If you have to do anything major, they send you to Puerto Rico. They cover the flights and everything....so, it's not too bad of a deal.

$5000 will get you a place to stay and take care of you in time to get a job......if you are into Aviation Management, contact Seaborne Airlines. They may have a place for you. www.seaborneairlines.com ......if you come here during high season, you will be able to find a job doing at least SOMETHING....for sure!

Good luck and we look forward to meeting you!

thank you very much. I found a great site with the info you gave me and the VA office is in Christiansted. I emailed the director to get some information for assistance on the islands for veterans.

I also bookmarked seaborne airlines...thanks

How is life for a single guy on the islands?
