Hi Everyone

I've been reading this board for months and loving it, especially the detailed narratives like Steve N.'s. I think it's great you have get-togethers, too. So nice to go someplace new and "know" some people!

Anyway, we're relocating to St. Thomas (North or East, haven't decided) in October if all goes well. We are a little unusual as it isn't just my immediate family, but also my parents and a cousin. We're from Irvine, CA - that's in Orange County, so we're very much used to tourists and outrageous housing costs. I'm a property manager / scuba diver and we've been planning this as a family for over a year now. Dad's a boat captain currently in the Gulf of Mexico, servicing oil rigs. Many people he comes across say he won't have much trouble finding work there. He's been to STT many times in his voyages and picked it out years ago. I've only been once and I was only 21 - the images and the feeling of the place has never left me.

Hubby is British - we've lived in London and Alicante, Spain, briefly, so we're pretty familiar with the rigors of long distance moving. So here's my question: A while back someone on this board mentioned a good, inexpensive short term rental place on the East End of STT - 'Island' something... been searching the threads for a hour now and I give up. Anyone know the name??

Thanks so much for your time, and keep on postin' !!

On top of the posts there is a search option. Just type in the info you want and it will pick through all the posts and bring up the posts that apply.

Tell Dad to get in touch with me if he is looking for Captain's work. May be able to point him in the right direction.

I am moving in October as well. I am staying at http://villafairview.com/ until I find permanent housing. Maybe we can create a get together of people moving down in October. I'm coming down from NYC and only know a couple of people myself.

Thanks for all the replies!

Steve: Thank you, and I did use the search option before I posted. Unfortunately, searching for "Island, short term" brings up quite a few postings.

Pamela: Thanks for the info! I passed on the information to my mom. Dad is out to sea at the moment but should be back within the week. I'm sure he'll be very happy!

Shawn: I had checked out Villa Fairview a little while back and though it looks gorgeous, it's the wrong area of the island for me. I'd prefer to be closer to the Red Hook area, but I'm thinking we may have to alter our plans a bit. Perhaps we will be better off in a hotel for a week or two. It worked for Steve! I will email you regarding the get-together, good idea!

We're coming in Jan. '05 and staying at the Villa Fairview. I've e-mailed the proprietor a few times and he was very helpful.
