This board is the best relocation package you will be able to find! Read up from the home page- tons of info! Then come back and ask the Crucians your questions!

The answer to you question is no, there is no government agency or other place you can get such information. Closest thing is the Settlers Handbook - it's for sale here.

The suggestion to read this board is a good one. We also always suggest you plan a longish visit, 2-4 weeks, to get the feel of living on the islands before you move. Another often asked question is "can I find a job/housing before I move?" Again the answer is no, probably not unless you have a specific skill that is badly needed here.

This site you are on now has the Settlers Handbook (a relocation/living in the VI book) as mentioned by LindaJ. Its a popular book for people considering moving to the USVI. It also has a relocation packet that includes the book, USVI map, newspapers and booklets. There is a DVD called Living in De VI. And several books written by folks that have moved to the USVI, for example Life in the Left Lane (written by someone that moved to St. Croix and she tells about her experiences) and Desiring Paradise (written by someone that moved to St. John). Some of these books are shown at the top of this page; for more information on all of them check http://www.vitraders.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=V&Category_Code=rel.

Thanks for the information Linda, well here the deal my husband was there a few years ago with a friend that owned property there, so he went over to do some work on one of the properties and some deep sea fishing. My husband came home loving the laid back pace of life. We had talked about coming over and I just wasn't in a position to leave my computer business here. Well that has changed and it turns out that we have an opportunity to manage a 60 unit corporate complex for our friend. It would be a huge change for us and who knows maybe a great adventure. I have been looking around on the web for info. What kind of jobs are in demand there. I do photography and computer consulting. We have been married for 36 years and what the hell. I am going to purchase the book you suggested and any more info would be greatly appreciated. Ronna

Ronna: At the top left of this page, click "Home" and from there find "what to expect" and click that. There are a number of Moving stories- written by people who have moved here. That is a very good place to start.

If only your husband has been here, you both should come down for a longish visit TOGETHER. It may be *his* dream, but if it isn't *your* dream, it could be a nightmare.
