renting a car - STX

OK! Now that I have my accommodations, shipping, and cell phone worked out (this board rocks(!) btw), I need to arrange for a rental car for temporary use upon my arrival to the island.

I've checked with Yahoo!, SideStep, and the individual websites for Budget/Avis/Thrifty/Ace. It seems that it'll run me about $250 a week (with taxes and such) under that method, and that I'd have to specify the precise amount of time that I'd need it, and book with a credit card (bleck).

I'd really like to use a local company where they say $35/day (or whatever) and I can use it without booking specific days just until I find my own personal hooptie.

Any recommendations and/or advice?

Thanks,

Kimberly

Call Olympic Car rental - they are in both Christiansted and Fredericksted. The number is 340-773-8000. They are "island rentals" - but cheap. The car runs mostly well - but may not look the greatest. I guess they have some new cars too.

I've called Olympic twice and I think they are too busy to bother with me? It was weird, not really sure what's up with that but will try again later. Centerline was the same price as the regular commercial rental agencies. The Goldmine phone number did not work.

I would definitely be up for calling Judy's if anyone has that phone number.

Thanks!

Kimberly

One thing you might want to keep in mind is that if you rent a car from an airport location you will be charged an additional airport tax. In the past I have found that Budget and Centerline charge about the same but if you use Budget and pick your car up at the airport there will be the extra airport tax added to your bill. I have used Centerline a number of times and have never had any problems. Several times I changed vehicles types midway through the rental period without issue.

OK, booked with Centerline. They bring the car to the airport for you, which is nice.

This board has helped me work out accommodations, shipping possessions, my cell phone, and now a rental car! Now, about finding me a man... Just kidding! 🙂

Thanks!

Kimberly
