Hi all retired veterans living in STT. Any advice on a what is the status on retired military folks (if any) livng in St. Thomas. Is Tricare accepted anywhere? Looking to move there (try short term first) in about two years. Plan on working but having the retirement supplement my income. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks greatly!
Neal

Neal: I am not a vet (thank you for your service!) and I have not heard of Tricare. You might want to call a few doctor's offices and Schneider Regional and ask. The health care we deliver to veterans here is woefully poor. There is a clinic- very understaffed- and most major problems are taken care of at the VA in Puerto Rico. Do some research on both.

Neal, Vet health care down here is tough. VA is overwhelmed but does work in its own unique way. I just retired and am working part time down here. It works for me! A PMV is a must. What kind of work will you look for? Which island? Do you have kids? All are important considerations. It seems to me that a lot of people I have met with school age kids have a tougher time.

Hi Neal,
Retired U S Army living on STX, can't tell you about the VA Clinic on STT, but the clinic on STX is great, Both clinics fall under the VA Medical Center in Puerto Rico. The VA will only Treat you and not your dependents because you have TRICARE. All the Civilian Hospitals will accept TRICARE without a problem. Most Doctors that accept Medicare will accept TRICARE and take assignment in full for covered services (some without a CO-PAY) you will not encounter any problems in the USVI with TRICARE. Good Luck, Welcome and God Bless.

Thanks lizard for info! Sounds like health care is workable. As I asked amodford30, Have you found employment? Anything a good fit. If it is too personal a question I apologize. I have a place in Florida allready but there is something about that blue water that even in Fla keys you cant get up here. Again thanks for message back.
