Where can I rent a room long-term. I don't want to live in a roach motel but, if its a decent rooming house or a room for rent out of someones home, that would work well.

Somebody please let me know, Dave

Dave did you check out the information I sent to you via this message board, and your original post?

I also sent it to your e-mail address?

So far no luck... does anyone else know of any rooming houses in town or near the University? Could someone e-mail me a pdf version of the Island Trader?

Thanks

Dave (from Boston)

I don't have a clue how to get you aPDF of the Island Trader.

Why not contact Ronnie at The Crystal Palace and just plan on being there for a week to get your bearings and find an apt. I think you'll be a whole lot more successful that way, being here rather than trying to do it from where you are now.

Hi Dave,

I received a copy of the Island Trader in today's mail. It is dated July 22-28, 2004, so it's the most current issue.

No one is advertising for a roommate or only a room for rent that I could find in this issue. There are quite a few listings for 1- and 2-bedroom apts., though.

None of the listings state specifically that they are near UVI, except for one that adjoins "the old school of Performing Arts," wherever that is. It's a 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit, either furnished or unfurnished, and you can see four islands from the porch. Sadly, they are asking $1,500/month, utilities not included.

As I am not that familiar with the various development names, it's kind of difficult to tell where places are located. Rental listings are given for East, West, Town, Above, and Other. A lot of the apts. in the West area are in Fortuna.

If you want me to send you the info on any or all of these listings, just holler. I'm a fast typist, and I don't mind posting them here for you.

Kinsey

Dave,

I found a listing for a roommate, but it's in the East End, which is pretty far from UVI, from what I've gathered. Just in case you want it anyway, here it is:

East End: Roommate to share 2 bedroom apt. Wraparound deck, spectacular view. $650 monthly, utilities included. No drugs. Call 715-2162.

I can't tell if it's $650 monthly total, or if that's your share. If the latter, this might be on the high side for you, especially given that you would have to have some type of transportation to get back and forth.

Island Paul,

I know that would make sense but, I would really like to have a meeting setup with someone when I get down there. I would to avoid living in a motel for more than one day. Man, if I had to I would crash on someones couch (thats only if I had to.).

Hey guys,

I found out the Best Western near the airport has deals for monthly rentals at $650 a month. Its close to town, the University, and it is relatively inexpensive.

Have any of you stayed at the Best Western? I spoke to the manager and he's going to hav someone pick me up at the airport when I arrive this Sunday at 1:00pm. However, seeing how that is short term, I would like the idea of roomming with someone.

A couple of girls (both from Boston, my hometown, RED SOX RULE) are moving down to STT in Sept. Asked me if something in my search popped up half way decent to let them know. So I said sure.

Anyways,

Thanks,
Dave
