The private schools are closed over here on St Thomas, too. Magens is closed. We also have an extra cruise ship.

Update:

Due to the continued inclement weather and with forecast projections calling for more rainfall activity on all three islands but specifically on St. Croix later today, Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. said at midday that all Virgin Islands government offices would remain closed today. He did ask that essential employees of all departments as well as all maintenance and custodial staff of the Department of Education report to their respective job sites at midday

When I finally was contacted, he was surrounded by cops and the principal... Havta laugh at the way things work on good 'ol StX! :-X SHEESH!

Uh, yeah, I got the "News Flash" via text at 9:01am. My son is in Gifft Hill School on St. John....but it was pretty obvious that they were closed since there were no cars parked out front. After listening to AM 1000 in the car for 20 minutes they announced it there as well. Am I the only one without a radio in the house????? The VI Alert system that sends out text messages and emails is great, if they are timely. Kind of useless if they send them out late.

Ok... Soo... Where else can we find out if schools are open besides the radio and a 1-2 hour- late text / email?? Is there a website or something that's more up-to-the minute? I mean, I may get arrested if I leave my son at school tomorrow again! Lol!

Ok So if you go to drop off your son and no cars are there or if there are not as many cars as usual go inside and see if the school is open. I think if this rain continues then school probably won't be open. Maybe you can call the school before you leave the house.

AM 1000 on the radio will have it....but like I said, you will have to be paying attention for awhile. They say they will make a decision by 6am this morning on closings. The website for the VI Alert is http://www.vialert.gov/Public/News/AlertView.aspx?notID=3098982&refer=HOME&source=ADFTFT&messageID=4728247& They will have it posted there...but yesterday the posting was late....so it wouldn't have done you much good. You can also sign up for the VI Alerts while you are there. They had to add my cell phone text message alerts manually....but they may have fixed that by now so you can just do it all online. I'm thinkin' were gettin' another island style 'snow day'.
