*Looking for info on scjools and school system. Test scores, admission rates, SAT scores etc. for lower and high schools

Tom - do you mean statistics on the student body?? Not clear what information you want. Please Clarify so we can help you.

Thanks for your quick response.

Yes I am intereseted in a in obtaining reports that detail student performance as a way to evaluate the schooling available in St Thomas. We are considering accepting a position and have two elementary age children and want to ensure adequate educational opportunities.

I live here with a seven year old. The public schools are, for the most part, not very good. My child goes to a private school. Most of the private schools are very good and have a range of prices from around $3500/year up to $12,000/year. As far as getting test scores, etc I would start with contacting the Education Department.

Well first off I would say that the public education system is good however it has a LOT of area for improvement. The puclic high schools loss accreditation last year. There are several good public elementary schools - I would say Peace Corps School and Sibilly Elementary Schools are good choices. However I beleive attendance has a lot to do with where on the island you live, not sure though, so that you would attend the school closest to you. In any case a really good elementary school is Montessori - it is a private school. Other private schools offer elementary levels as well and are also very good.

So for public school stats you might contact the Education Department as suggested. They have a web site at http://www.teachislands.vi its for employment however has contact information also. You can also call the schools by going to the yellow pages at http//www.viphonebook.com and searching for them and talking to the principle to get a feel for the school.

For the private schools you can contact them as well through the yellow page listings. And a couple have web sites so you can try that route also.
