Did anyone hear Sam Baptiste's Campaign today on 1620?

He came up with a great idea on how to lower the WAPA rate that would take about 7 mos. I think he is going to publish his plan in the paper. What I liked most is that he is planning on proposing this to the governor, now, without waiting for the election. This man is a team player, and is definitely in it for the People.

Judi Fricks-Buckley also has my vote. She will work hard, and she does not leave unfinished business on the table.

John Canegata has caught my ear, but I need to go to one of his campaign speeches.

Not sure if Sanes & Nellie deserve another go.

What was Baptiste's proposal?

I'll be interested to see his proposal but the cynic in me questions the timing of it's unveiling. He's been around the political circuit for a few years (was Foncie's running mate in the last gubernatorial race) ...

Sanes was the force behind the Peace Officer bill; he deserrved everyone's vote.

Sam Baptiste's plan is to include in the negotiations with Hovensa a short term power supply.

Hovensa is retrofitting to propane to supply power to their plant. If negotiated correctly, Hovensa would supply enough power to STX during a period that WAPA would shut down a portion of their boilers & retrofit to propane or lng, eventually eliminating fossil fuel as the fuel.

Hovensa wants things, GVI wants things. Can an agreement be reached?

Here's a quote from the above article: "Hovensa, which closed its oil refinery earlier this year, is adamant about not allowing other suppliers to use its port and storage facility, when some have said they can supply cheaper and cleaner fuel. Calling the territory’s position “extremely precarious,” Christensen called that position is "tantamount to holding us all hostage.”

Sorry, but our VI Government, in my humble opinion, could not properly negotiate its way out of a paper bag.

Yes, I was also impressed with Sam Baptiste. His plan sounds feasible and his presentation was impressive. He also had Hovensa employees with him that made his presentation credible.

Some may be cynical of his timing, but the negotiation window for Hovensa and GVI is currently open and it coincides with this election cycle. He did say that it doesn't matter if he's elected or not, his proposal will be sent to the governor and current legislature.

I'm glad to see more discussion about the candidates, though they're not on STT. I'm hearing too many people say they're not voting the full slate, and that's how the incumbents stay in office, because they have a large network of supporters. Not voting for a full slate gives them too big an opening.

I was skeptical of Judi Fricks-Buckley for a while, and still am a bit. However, the Judi I have come to know has some attributes that are needed to get a job done. When she takes on a task, it seems to get completed. She has a huge ego that is balanced by her need to be liked. She is smart, and that's a plus considering what we have had to deal with for years.

Judi was one of the people that brought Crime Stoppers to the territory, and she worked hard to get it done. So, she is more than the voice behind the reports.

She may not have all that we would like to see in a senator, but she definitely has much more going for her than many of the other choices.

What was is about Canegata that was a turn off?

I liked Baptiste's presentation a lot. Arthur Joseph impresses me with his upfront candor.

A friend sent this to me this morning and I thought I would share since he in running in the STT/STJ district.
I could not copy and insert the picture. Thought the below was great. He will get my vote for a STT/STJ candidate,
I would have him at the very top of the list. (tu)(tu):@)

WANTED
The person shown on the left and known by the name ofAndreas Tietjemanaged, for reasons unknown to ourHonorable Board of Elections, to get on the Ballot as Candidate #10 for Senator.

Beware of this candidate:
• Andreas Tietje, along with some other new candidates, want to repeal Act 6905, which
gave us a modest salary increase of $20,000 and some special increases in our
retirement benefits. We had to work through the Christmas holidays and even had to
increase the salary for the governor from $80,000 to $150,000 just to get his signature
on our bill on 12/28/2008. As you can appreciate, we work hard for our money.
• This candidate wants us to reduce the members of our senate from 15 to 9. Is this guy
totally out of his mind? Doesn’t he understand that 15 senators cannot do the business
for our people? What we need are more senators, preferably one per every 1,000
residents to get things done. The more the merrier.
• Another craziness: This guy wants to introduce term limits to two consecutive terms for
our senators. This is about the dumbest idea he presents to our voters. Four years in
the Senate are too short to establish a solid pay-off system for us to make a good
living after we resign or get thrown out of office. Some of us senators are smarter then
others to establish our financial goals within two terms, but most of us need more time.
Does he want us to steal? It took us four plus years to hide $6.9 Million and now we
might have to give it back. This cannot be a solution.
• Then this idiot comes along and was not even born and raised here and tries to tell us
what to do. We know what to do since we do it over and over again. AND IT WORKS.
• This guy also questions the qualifications of some of our candidates to hold the office
of a senator. What does he know? He spent his entire life in the corporate world.
• We can do better without him. We can be proud to have 20,000 plus people employed
in our government. Our budgets might have been off for the past twenty years, but our
children we raise can deal with our debts. They can look forward to a bright future on
our islands and should pay us back for what we paid to raise them.
If you do not believe us, read it yourself on this
Website: AndreasForSenatorVI.com :@)
We do not need changes, we like our islands the way they are.
Published by the Save our Senators Coalition. We accept donations or Frequent Flyer Miles
for a ONE WAY TICKET to get this person off our islands once and for all. If possible, we will
try not to misappropriate your contributions.

you are absolutely right! if you vote for only 5 senators that is only 5 votes [for. example against chuckie or r. russell.] if you vote for 7 canidates it becomes 7 votes against them. we all should VERY WISELY use all 7 votes.

I disagree. If you vote for 5 or 7 that is still only one more vote for each of those individuals. Is the intent to vote for just the candidates you think would do the right job, or specifically voting for anyone but candidate X?

And if you really only like 5 candidates, you may end up, by using up your 6th or 7th vote, helping to eliminate one of your top 5.

When I first read this I thought it said "Sanatorial Candidates STX" and I was thinking that Janitor would be the right job for most of them. 🙂

Just one more vote can make a difference. I'm asking everybody I know what they think about candidate xyz. Out of such a large field of candidates, there should be enough good ones to vote for. This may be our best hope for change.
