server job

Hello-

I am considering moving to the USVI. I have many years of serving experience and figure it would be the easiest job for me to pursure. Can anyone give me any feedback? Is it possible to acquire a job before moving? And if not, is it easy to get a serving job in the Islands?

But no, it is not possible to get a server job on any of the 3 islands without being on island, standing in front of the person hiring.

I had a tenant last year who was hired to work as a server at the Buccaneer from off island. I've know quite several people on St. Thomas who were hired to work at the Ritz and the Marriott, in various F&B capacities, from off island. Of course it's easier if you are already here, but not impossible, if you are applying at the large resorts. Some of the more upscale, fine-dining places will also review a resume and possibly offer you a position, if your resume is OUTSTANDING, and your references, too.

Usually it's easier to get a job in a resort if you're in the company already or have a strong resort background. It's slow right now on STT & STJ but things crank up in the early autumn. You're best shot is to be here & be presentable when you apply. Take any job until you get a good rep as a reliable honest worker & then you can move up to better jobs. Word gets around fast if you steal, don't show up, etc.

one of the fine dining places had a "stealing" bartender working for them last night as a temp, he worked once for a friend and the till was 80 bucks short at the end of the night

Juanita is correct, you may be able to line up a job from off island. But, IMO, no employer, and certainly not up any scale resorts, will seal the deal until they see you and talk to you in person.

and you will need an STT server card. It takes about three days and about 70$.

I think Billd means a health card which all food service, bartenders, etc. have to have here.
