Are folks still buying new cars in the mainland and shipping them to the USVI?

Five years ago when I was living in St. Thomas, this was a way of saving money on a new car.

I'm now living in Jacksonville Fl and toying with the idea of starting a business that offers this service.

Comments...?

We have a surplus of cars here now. Please think of another business! 🙂

I just bought and sold a car, and found that they are everywhere. There are also mechanics who can keep a car on the road forever, so...... A third thing is that many people seem to not be purchasing new cars as they get a lot of wear as the roads are, well, a bit bumpy (I'm being kind right now).

I had a great truck with little mileage, but traded it in as I knew it would be torn apart in a few years, and would rather put repair money into an island car, where I don't have a large investment, than in something where there is a large investment. If they ever tell me "She's dead", I won't morn for long, but just get another.

There are lots of viable businesses here. Online, look for the SBDC on St. Croix. It is a joint venture with the SBA and the University. They give tremendous advise in the business arena.

Best wishes,

Dan
