Anyone out there know what is happening here on the North side ?
I've been hearing sirens since 8:45, and the smoke smell is STRONG.
I heard from my neighbor that he has a friend over by SIBS who said that the fire is somewhere around Mountain Top.
That's all I've heard... my other friend in North Star has heard all the sirens too but no smoke there.

What a loss.
Mt Top was one of my favorite places on St. Thomas.

A friend went there but was kept out & was told it was a crime scene. Who knows?

It was a pretty scary thing. Our condo is near Mountain Top. Every time the firefighters seemed to get the flames down, they would flare back up. They did not have enough water, but did a great job not letting the tanks explode. They were still hosing hot spots this morning. There doesn't seem to be much left, although you can't get very close with the fire tape [not that I want to--saw way too much of it last night]. The fact that the main part sits under a hill protected the houses and condos in the area. And we have had a good bit of rain up here so things were wet. It was a long night, but those of us who live up here are safe as well as the firefighters and police officers and we are very glad. Still, the shop owners lost whatever they had there and several people are out of a job.

So sorry to all of you on STT. Sorry for me that I have never been to mountain top. Hopefully they have great insurance and can rebuild. Cudos to the fire department that contained the fire so it didn't spread to nearby homes and businesses.
