I know someone who posts here who is from LI, but I did not learn that information through this forum, so I won't share the person's name. However, the person is a frequent poster and likely to see this thread, so if you have a question for someone from LI you may get it answered here.

Sauceress, I'm from Central Islip and my honey's in Rocky Point. We'll be making a permanent move after retirement in a couple of years. On which island do you live?

I've never heard anyone say ''you'ns''--- (except maybe Tennesse Ernie Ford on I Love Lucy.) Where does that come from?

Paula,
I've had friends from Ohio say you'ns. I'm a y'all girl, myself.

Edited to change the spelling from ya'll to y'all. Not sure, have seen it both ways, but since it's a contraction of you all, I think it's right. Actually, I guess there really isn't a "proper" way to spell it! LOL

Language Person says: "y'all". It is a contraction, so you put the ' where the missing letters are.

Every time I see the subject line "so many southerners", I want to say, "And your point is???" 😉 Not enough southerners, IMHO!(tu)

Just spell it "yawl" and you don't need to worry where the apostrophe goes.

(FYI: I did a spell check before posting this and yawl was not picked out as incorrect)
