We have a mailing address handled. We have temporary housing for up to six weeks. We need to find a car, set up a bank account, car insurance etc. What order should we do this and any specific recommendations for insurance, banks, car dealers etc will be welcomed. I have been watching the island trader for weeks and plan to print the new one tomorrow and set some appointments to look at cars on Friday and Saturday.

By the way we will be flying one way tomorrow. 🙂

Hey, Jay! Have a good trip down. My first task after moving in was to open my bank account. That way I felt like I belonged. I shipped a car, but it didn't get here for a bit. I took the bus, got rides, etc for a few days. SInce you are staying with friends (?) you should be okay for the car. Getting your bank account started gets you out there in the real world. Again, welcome!

Eastender,
Thanks I had figured the bank was first. We actually are staying on campus at a temp apartment and have a car rented for a week. So the car thing will likely be our second priority.

AH, you will quickly learn about the joys of John Brewer's Beach! When you get settled, remember the Yacht Club deal. The Rolex is coming up quickly!

Island Trader comes out on Thursday so no need to print one out since you'll be here! I've had excellent luck with Toyotas down here & have been pleased with the service department at the Toyota dealer here. Just my opinion. Have a safe trip!

Plan on the bank taking a while unless you are the first one there, and pray that their "network" isn't down. I took me half a day to set-up a checking account and then two weeks to add the wife, make sure you bring two forms of ID and your Soc Security Card.

I assume that as of today we have another St. Thomian? 🙂 Did you bring the rain, Jay?
