Is there a need for Special Ed teachers on STJ or STT? Does anyone know what the salary ranges are and if any schools would assist in moving costs for such a teacher and/or assist with tuition for children?

Nikki: Special Ed teachers are needed. There is supposed to be a website called teachislands.vi for potential teachers, but I couldn't find it. Here is the Department of Education's site: http://www.doe.vi/index.php

The positions are unionized and salaries depend on education and years of experience. They will not pay for moving or tuition (your children would be expected to be in the public school system.) If you are interested, I would call the office of Special Ed and talk to a live person at 340-776-5802.

As there have been reportedly problems in providing educational services to students with special needs, I offered to volunteer to assist in psycho and educational planning for the most challenging students. The offer was made three times, and I never received a response. Shortly after, I read about the money that needed to be returned to the U.S. Goverment as basic criteria in services was not met.

I don't get it, and won't offer again. I'm not angry, just mystified. I feel badly for the students, and still offer teacher training for IEP, ITP, IPP, goals and objectives and well as assessment. If I get a call, I would be very surprised indeed.

Perhaps applying to be a teacher is a more straight and narrow path. I am not sure, but thought I would share this reflection of how things seem to be.

Best regards,

Dan
