We recently had a friend down to visit who had Sprint mobile broadband service that seemed to work fine on STX.

Anyone use this? How's the speed & reliability??

Thanks.

I used to use it a couple of years ago. The speed was great wherever there was a good signal. Bad signal = low speed. I do remember the hardware being a bit floppy and it broke several times. That's probably been fixed by now. They do make you take out another line for it though--which means the 2 year contract in most cases. This is annoying since I stopped using the service before the contract was up--however couldn't get rid of the line. SO the customer service people at Sprint set me up with the cheapest payment possible for the extra line at $10 a month until the contract was up. Make sure wherever you will use it gets an excellent sprint signal.

Sprint Air Card rocks! Great for when you have no power or want to be mobile. Been here for about a year, i live within sight of c-sted and its been VERY reliable, however, go to the north shore and lots of spots west and its awful. If you can see a tower your good, if your in a valley, or behind a mountain... could be iffy!!:-(

I use both an att & sprint air air card on STX. As stxem says, it depends on your signal. However, the sprint aircard runs circles around the att card. If I leave my computer idle, the att card drops after about an hour. For the most part, the Sprint card stays connected.

My husband were on STX in December and my Sprint mobile broadband worked great. I had absolutely no problems with it. I had even bought a new laptop and used it to download several large programs that I installed on the new laptop and it was all good. I had the plan that allows unlimited data so I didn't see any additional charges on the bill. We were staying in Judith's Fancy on the north side of one of the hills and never had an issue of losing signal. We also used it to make video calls to our friend in Brazil during that time. I pay $59 a month for it but everywhere I have gone with my laptop it has worked great. I couldn't be happier with it. 🙂

I have the Sprint Card

Just remember the houses here are concrete and the rebar cause interference...so in some places in our house it wont work...outside is fine...

In MY opinion...nothing for Sprint on this island beats AT&T when it comes to signal...When the AT&T card hits 3G it blew my Sprint card away...This is just my observations....

Please remember the 5GB monthly caps when considering a mobile broadband package...consider your monthly bandwidth before you go this route. Between Innovative DSL, Broadband VI, and choice you can usually find a non mobile broadband solution that works well if you use more that 5GB/month.

Thanks for all the responses.
Sean - I hate to show my technological ignorance, but how would I know what my monthly bandwidth is to make that decision?
