I hope you don't mind me posting this here as well as on the Community link... but I know many people only look at this forum and don't see the other... and this is an important message for the benefit of a valued organization in our community!

The St. Croix Animal Welfare Center is having its' annual Fur Ball a little early this year. It is January 24th (a week from Saturday!) .

This is one of the shelter's major fundraisers and is a wonderful fun event. The dinner served is your choice of filet or fish (or vegetarian) and there will be passed apps, music by Steve Katz, a great auction, and a fashion parade of pets. It should be fun, but more importantly it is a necessary fundraiser for the shelter which really needs our help in these hard times.

The cost for a ticket is $125.00. Nearly half of that (or maybe slightly more than half of that) is the cost of the food, so the shelter does not really make so much money on the tickets. Top Dog and Fat Cat tickets are available at a slightly higher price and are a great way to make a generous donation and have an even more fun time at the event. Tickets can be purchased by calling the development director at 340-643-4555 Let her know you saw it on the VI Moving Center! . Cocktails start at 6:00 and Dinner will be about 7:30. It will be at the Palms Resort ....Attire is island elegant. Try to reserve as soon as possible as we need to get a headcount in to the caterer!
We all go out to dinner and support our local restaurants. We all care about our community. Please consider attending this event and helping us to raise money to support a very worthy cause. Like all non profits, the economy is affecting the shelter and there are many changes going on there at the moment. The bottom line... the animals need us to continue to support the shelter so that they do not suffer... not just the animals that are there this moment, but all the animals on island that benefit from the humane education programs, the animal cruelty investigations, the animal control services and the adoption and health care services that are provided through the shelter.

Please consider coming to this event and showing your support... or, if you can not come, please consider mailing in a donation to the animal shelter, however small.... mark it Attn: FurBall Committee.... and send it to SCAWC, RR2, Kingshill VI 00850. They really need our support in these difficult times!

Help Us help them... their hearts are in our hands

Hi all. The FurBall is THIS saturday! and its going to be fantastic. Tickets are still available. Call the number above. There is going to be GREAT food... a great Auction... and a real nice time had by all. Dinner and Wine included in the $125.00 ticket price.

The animal shelter is the only non-profit organization on island that I know of that opens its doors every day of the week to the sounds of almost 100 hungry mouths waiting to be fed and cared for. 100 little hearts looking for some love and attention. Cages must be cleaned, bathes must be given, healthcare must be administered... Rain, Storm or Shine the staff has all these little lives depending on them everyday. The shelters task of caring for the animals and educating and encouraging our community on the proper and humane treatment of animals is never ending.... Please. Think about it. Support their fundraising efforts if you can , but support them with your words, your actions and your hearts if you can not. Adopt. Spay your pets. Don't add to the overpopulation burden on this island. Report abuse. Become a member. Volunteer. Do whatever you can to help them help the animals.

Their new catch phrase at the shelter is 'their hearts are in our hands". Nice. So true.
