Hello,
I am looking into relocating and I'm not sure what type of liscensure I would need to work at the schools in St. Croix as an Occupational Therapist. Can you point me in a direction of where to look. I wrote earlier regarding calendar time for the school systems and forgot to say where. I am curious about St. Croix scheduling within the schools.
Thanks,
Moni:)*

Moni: There is no local licensure for OT. Are you OTR? I do not believe that St Croix has an OT, although I could be wrong. The home health agency does not have one, nor does the hospital (unless something has changed quite recently). Have you looked at the teachislands.vi website? They do list an OT opening. The school schedule is similar to the stateside one, although there are tons more holidays...

The private schools usually start a week and a half before Labor Day weekend. There are usually a few days for registration and orientation and then a week of classes before the long weekend. Sports teams start practices also.

Hello there. If I am not mistaken, another Occ. Therapist moved to St. Croix within perhaps the past two months. If you do a search, you might be able to find this person and communicate. Also, if you are going to be doing this in the schools, THEY will tell you what you need if anything.

Although I have been an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) for quite some time, when I have worked for schools, some actually want a copy of my license and insurance, and some just don't care as long as I can get the job done and have the appropriate degrees.

If you do private practise while you are here, there is a licensing office near Pueblo grocery store in Christiansted. Some of these licenses are hidden behind other categories like 'consulting'. As I wanted to do things by the books, I went everywhere to find out how to get licensed. It turned out that my license is as a "Consultant: Clinical, Individual and Organizational" Who would have thunk?

Best wishes,

Dan

The school system is required to privide related services for students with special needs. Occipational Therapy is one of the related services. Contact Gail Perez at the Department of Special Education.

Michael -

There really are no "apartments" like you are thinking of on St. Croix...most apartments are part of someone's house - and there are condos. It's mostly word of mouth, looking in the Avis, and beating feet.

As far as the casino, I believe you have to apply with the employment division at Sunny Isle - don't bother calling, they won't answer the phone. Divi runs ads periodically for help and always directs people to that location.
