St John Beach Hut

This is just an idea...but I have been thinking about trying to open a bar/restaurant in St. John once I settle down there. It would be in a "beach hut" kind of style. What is the demand for these places like in St. John.

Do you think this is a good idea?
Also...might it be better to try to open this in St. Thomas?

Have you thought about showing local art work on the walls for sale by local artists? I managed a restaurant here that had great luck with this?

I have thought about doing the same thing in St.Croix. I wonder what the estimated start up cost is? Have you done any research?

I havent done any research but I would like to start. I just wonder how restaurants in St. John do at different times of the year. Does anybody know? Would I have any luck opening in a place besides Cruz Bay?

Hello Peter,

Your choices for locations are limited; particular the beaches; National Park protects much of St. John and its beaches. Most restaurants in the VI depend on both visitors and residents... so you would need to be popular with both; residents can keep you going in slow season. There are a few restaurants on St. John (and St. Thomas/St. Croix) that close for 2 week to a month during the slowest of off season and do renovations, take vacation and what have you. There are restaurants outside of Cruz Bay... mostly in Coral Bay.
