I have read a lot of really good information on the internet, the Visitors Center, USVI and this travel board is amazing!

I will be traveling to St. Thomas in early March and looking for inexpensive lodging for myself for one to two weeks. I am OK with a bed in a home, condo, timeshare. B&B or ? I would like to spend $50 or less a night if possible . . I will share a bath ....

I am willing to do a "trade" for a guest room in my home located in the Sonoma County Wine Country - Santa Rosa, CA.- close to over 300 Award Winning Wineries and 1+ hour to San Francisco and 45 minutes to the Napa Valley Wine Region! You would be in the heart of the Wine Country!!! I have lived in Sonoma County 30+ years and would be your "guide" and supply you with brochures on the local attractions, activities, events, wineries etc.

Do you know of anyone who may be interested in a trade or who has inexpensive accommodations?

I am also considering moving to St. Thomas and would need employment. I am a 60 years "young at heart" single woman. I have worked in the hospitality field for 18+ years as a Sales and Marketing Director for the Hilton SF Fisherman's Wharf and resort hotels located in Northern California. Most recently I was the Marketing & Development Director (Fundraiser) for 7+ years for a nonprofit that helped people with alcohol and other drug addiction.

I am seeking a job either in the hospitality industry, nonprofit sector and/or a sales, marketing, public relation, business development or event planning position.

I have been sending resumes to the Resort Hotels and other job leads in St. Thomas but I understand they might not consider me as I am not a resident yet.....does anyone have a connection - friend, family member, friend of a friend who can give me info, pass along my info or give me referrals? Any information you provide would be appreciated!

THANK YOU very much for reading my post !! I look forward to your response!

Make it a GREAT week!

Welcome to the board.

I think that $50 a night is not very realistic, at least for the kind of accommodations that someone from Northern California would find adequate. Unless you were a 20 year old pot smoker from Eureka... You can check with Ronnie Lockhart who has been fostering newbies for 22 years. 😉 http://www.crystalpalaceusvi.com/

On your two week visit, go in person to all the places where you have been sending resumes and see people. Also go visit the grocery stores, etc. for an idea of how this place is different from Northern CA. Good luck!

Ronnie at Crystal Palace hands down the best B&B and it's located in town and near the bus route. If you call Ronnie, he's always willing to work with folks.

$50 a night is a pipe dream. Never gonna happen. You need to have a more realistic budget.

Rhoda's guest house out in TuTu at Tillett Gardens might be close to what you are looking for they have communal living areas where you share a room with others or you can get a room all to yourself and share a bath. I believe they are located right off the bus route or at least used to be when I works for Tillett back in the early 70's.

Now, have you ever been to the Islands before? if the answer is no, I would wait to see how it is before even thinking about making a move. Then you will get a more realistic view of the Islands. I realize that HGTV makes it look so inviting and everyone can afford a piece of paradise, but that isn't realistic nor is it true. The Islands is an expensive place to live or it can be fairly reasonable if you keep your expectations low and I mean LOOOOOW. Like living in a shack, no electricity, eating beans and rice until it comes out your ears.

Also, what type of health insurance do you have in the states. At 60, you don't qualify for medicare and most health insurance companies don't carry over to the Islands unless you pay a hefty penalty? Right now there is little option for affordable healthcare in the Islands.
