These products are never on "sale", but I buy them all the time and am now curious as to how much they are in the States.

Post Great Grains Banana Nut Crunch cereal - 15.5 oz

Smucker's Natural Creamy Peanut Butter - 16 oz

Cereal is generally very expensive here. The Post cereal seems to be reasonable, but maybe not?

The cereal is around $5.00 depending where and when.
The peanut butter is Around $4.00. These are New Jersey prices.

I may have to take a couple of tranquilizers to contain the excitement.

OT, yes, this will be a drum roll moment!

I figure if I reveal prices now, fewer people will give prices. Don't want to influence responses. 🙂

See if you can check out prices at this store here http://www.harristeeter.com using their online shopping link and pick a store if it's not blocked. I think the posted prices are in store prices (either regular or weekly special) and they charge a monthly or yearly fee for the service. They shop, you pick up.

Love Harris Teeter! Will probably go in Aug. It's not worth it for a single person to buy groceries online, IMO. I'm just curious.

The online is a convenience so you don't have to spend time in the store and you simply pull up to the store and they bring your groceries out for you. Good for someone who who has trouble getting in/out of the car I guess. Maybe next they will do home delivery.

This is the third thread already in four weeks on the same subject of stateside vs mainland food prices. Is it not possible to simply stick to one and update for those interested or are we aiming for one new thread a week on the subject? Is there an in-house contest I missed seeing?

BJ's Wholesale has the peanut butter. Two 26oz. jars for $7.50. The cereal is the same for 2 22oz packs in a box.

Thanks, James T!

OT, other posts were for local prices. I want Stateside prices for my staples to prepare for my Stateside trip this summer. I know what prices are here.

Surely the best way to find out stateside prices is to go onto a forum specific to the area you're visiting. Prices vary a lot from state to state and market to market too (as they do here).

And there's a hundred posts pissing and moaning about WAPA etc. What's your point?

A previous post mentioned Walmart prices for peanut butter. Did not specify brand which is important to people like me who only buy sugar free brands.

That post prompted me to ask about prices for the only sugar-free mainstream peanut butter that I see in regular grocery stores on island. I thought residents and potential residents might want to know you can buy mainstream sugar free peanut butter on island, but they should be aware if they have to pay a substantial premium.

Who's the moderator for this site? I don't think it's OT. If anybody thinks a post is inappropriate, please report to moderator instead of judging in the forums.

"Who's the moderator for this site? I don't think it's OT. If anybody thinks a post is inappropriate, please report to moderator instead of judging in the forums."

Why are you both getting your knickers in such a twist over simple logic?

If someone thinking of moving here wants specific prices on particular items that's one thing. If someone living here wants to post prices of local market specials to save fellow residents money, go for it.

But if you're planning a visit stateside and want to know stateside prices on certain items so you can plan the purchases you want to bring back with you, what on earth is the point of asking stateside visitors who contribute to this forum what their local prices are when they may well live in Northern California and you're visiting New Hampshire? Google the area you're visiting and "supermarket prices" or something similar; or go to a forum devoted to that particular area, list your preferred cereals and peanut butter brands there and ask someone if they can check comparative prices.

As far as WAPA being discussed, WAPA is a bloody sight bigger part of our lives here than the comparative price of a box of breakfast cereal.

I understand after living here for 30 years that expecting simple logic to abound is sometimes a futile expectation but let's give it a try anyway where this subject is concerned.

OT,

I think I started this line of questions last week. I just wanted to see a comparison that is more detailed than the answer "prices are high"

Thanks, denvertired, but I am trying to help posters determine what is and what is not expensive. "Cereal" is too broad, because the cereal I asked about is vastly different from Frosted Flakes, etc. That's why I mentioned specific brands.

I also prefaced my post with statement that products I am interested in are never on sale. Others who are contemplating move here may also be interested in prices for those products not on sale, but won't know what prices are unless an independent party posts them. As I said in a previous post, cereals seldom are posted on sale flyers.

Feel free to ask for current prices on your specific favorites. Will be happy to post prices if/when I see them on STT.

I'm sorry. Who mentioned it's the third thread in four weeks? I keep forgetting certain people are privileged. No ones "knickers", panties, or Joe Boxers are in a bunch, twist or anything else.

Please don't sidetrack. There is already a thread going which you started on comparative prices with that aim.

You started this new thread not because you want to help those thinking of relocating better understand the price differences but because you are going stateside and are preparing your shopping list. I'll even be more helpful and lead you to some relevant sites if you'll divulge to where you're traveling and where you plan to go grocery shopping.

Denvertired, so cereal is Post Great Grains? Then cereal is expensive here. The cheapest you will find it is $4.49 at CostULess and $4.59 at Plaza Extra. Most other cereals are much more expensive which is why I was eating rice for breakfast until I decided this cereal was healthier because of the fiber.

The health food healthy cereals are, what did denvertired call them, die broke expensive.

Oatmeal pricing next...

Just in case people want to know how much healthier options cost that may not be advertised.

Personally I don't know why such threads exist. No offense. We live on an island where everything is shipped in. Yea it's expensive, the cost to get it here is too. My .02 I just tell everyone it's a $1.50 AVERAGE island life tax. 🙂

(tu)

And particularly since this one has now simply become a continuation of a previous thread so is completely redundant.
