Are there any organic farms on st. thomas? If not, are there any local green veggies that grow wildly? for example, in belize we have "Chaya" and "Calilloo" and local spinach, which are all wild local greens...
what about when it comes to meat? can you buy local eggs instead of imported, factory farmed eggs? Can you buy local meat instead of hormone injected meat?

My husband and I may be moving to St. Thomas because of a job offer I got..my husband is Belizean and I am an American who used to live in Belize....we had a huge organic farm there that one day we hope to return to...we don't want to go from eating fresh and healthy foods to nasty corporate food made by Kraft, for example...we also may like to work a bit on a farm...thanks!

We frequent the Bordeaux farmers market on the West End for locally grown veggies. Last Sunday of every month.

Fruit Bowl has several organic items it imports. Also, when you get here, talk to David, he can discuss special ordering meat.

On STX, Annaly Farms has local beef that can be sent to STT. They also have chicken breast that has been reported to be free-range, etc., but I have received conflicting reports whether they are really corn-fed, free-range chickens.

Also, Gourmet Gallery carries incredibly expensive Empire Kosher Chicken. While not organic, the kosher process dictates better living practices and more humane treatment.

You can develop more info and connections hwen you get here, but that should be start!
