I haven't seen any Scotiabank branches in the states (though it is Canada's largest bank), and their website doesn't list any under USA (USVI is separatated and placed in their extensive Caribbean section.) I used to have a Bank of America account and could use Scotiabank ATMs without fees. I hated BofA and now use Wells Fargo Bank. They refund me any fees charged by anyone, but I think that's a balance perk. I have seen Banco Popular in the states. They have a handful of branches in areas heavily populated by Puerto Ricans. No nationwide investment firms with offices here that I'm aware of. You could check the local phone book viphonebook.com but it's pretty easy to invest with national firms online. They don't seem to be as inflexible as banks with respect to one's mailing address being a PO Box in the Caribbean. I haven't seen gyros here but I don' t eat out much so I'm not a good source for that sort of information. Aren't you on STX?

Scotiabank lists the USA under their country list in the phone book. Used to be a Merrill Lynch office downtown. Don't know if it's still there.

trw, you are not moving to a foreign country, lol! About all I have to contribute, at this time, is Latitude 18 for gyros. Now...I have been on STX for over a year now, so things may have changed. Latitude was already going through some changes when I left, but you might check them out. good gyro, really good steak, fabulous music and the most laid back place on Earth! It is, however, a drinking place, so be aware!

I looked up Scotia & it becomes Scotiacapital or something like that which might be something not quite like a regular bank.

Trw, I bank with Banco Popular. I know that there are branches here in Orlando, Miami, Chicago, Southern CA. The only problem is that the VI Banco Populars and the Stateside ones kind of operate separately. When I needed to take out large sums from my account when I was down there the bank had to call a stateside branch to verify my funds. My deposits took a little longer....not too long to deposit than had I gone to a stateside branch. There are also differences in what services are available depending on if you open stateside versus the VI. I would suggest opening stateside.

Banco Popular Puerto rico, Banco Popular VI, Banco Popular N.A they are 3 different entities own by Popular inc in San Juan Puerto rico. I think they are over 60 Branches in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Southern California, Chicago, Texas, Massachsets, Illinois. Now i thought that i could go to any Banco Popular and have a check exchange for cash from my Puerto rico account i was wrong they told me the only way the could exchange it if i have a US Banco Popular account? So don't be mistaken they are the same company but different. Scotiabank is Canada's second largest bank RBC ( Royal Bank of Canada is the biggest) The good thing about Scotiabank that it has a big presence in the Caribbean as well as latin America everywhere you go or any island there is a scotiabank.

The gyros at Friendly Grocery on the N-side [gas station] has sliced to order, off the stick, gyros with fresh homemade cucumber sauce - the only real ones I have seen here.

I've heard really good things about Journeys Spa at Windham. I know it's a resort but lots of locals go there. Give 'em a call & mention you're a local. Maybe they'll give you a special price.

I haven't been to either of those 2 restaurants. If you go, post how they were.

I don't have her card on me right now, but if you go in that building where the basketball court and everything is, and go up the stairs to the very top floor there is just this small room with a piano in it and one door in the room. Boel's table and set up is in there, as well as her cards and I think a list of services.

Cafe Amalia/Pita Express has gyros as well. And, on weekdays you may be in an area that's eligible for delivery! They are closed for vacation until September though. http://www.amaliacafe.com/

Pita Express does the delivering. You can sign up for their mailing list online and be alerted to daily specials but they always have a terrific gyros on the sandwich menu with cucumber sauce, fresh green lettuce, tomato and onion.

hey Trade awhile back i said i'd like to know about what STT was like when you arrived and started your life there, when i was in college my majors were archaeology and history so that makes me nosy and curious about the past, i guess i'd still like to hear this from you, just for some type of recorded record froma statesider that fell in love with the VI and stayed longterm,to me this type of history is important and needs to be preserved.

and i guess i mean anyone not just Trade,Lizard,East Ender,ok heres another strange question, how do you know when you have reached the end of a relationship/marrage,ihave waited on so many couple here because we are a tourism destination, and quite a few of them seem just bored to death with each other, so i wonder when does a relationship go from lust to companionship and just being there for each other, and i think people reach a point when it's easier to just be friends and companionss than it is too go out looking for the next mr or mrs right and so i wonder do we settle for less and if so why
