Those who are unwilling to be part of a solution are part of the problem.

Why do you find it so elusive a thought that people who don't share your passions aren't necessarily a "part of (any) problem" but simply have other agendas?

A response to my email to Senator Nellie:

I have every intention of helping to reverse this unfortunate event. I am sorry the government had been such a horrible partner. I am out of the territory returning tonight. Will get to work on this as soon as I return. Hang in there.

Nellie

Says the person moving away from the problems.
I have many problems that are concerning me. Prioritizing those problems I have put stray animals at about #12. When #1-11 have been addressed ill try to get around to this issue.

Whoa there, Sparty and OT.
There you both go, again.
I'm moving to get healthcare (which you both have access to) and be closer to aging and new family members, if it is any of your business.

Just because, I'm not going to be on island doesn't mean that I won't continue to speak out on issues that affect my home of more years than either of you put together as I have ALWAYS done. You're good at posting and posturing on this forum, but I've never heard that you've contacted senators about any issues, nor written letters to the editor to provide a viewpoint, etc.

If you don't care about the island's animals, it is no skin off my nose.
I do and always will as both of you well know.
It's unfortunate that on so basic and simple an issue regarding care and compassion for our island's unwanted, mistreated and abandoned animals
that it doesn't unite and galvanize all of us to help.

If it's not an important issue to you, then don't chime in on a thread that has been posted with the intention of helping resolve the issue and there is no reason to continue to attempt to disrespect me, my choices, my opinions or what I may choose to write.

I am sick to death of OT's constant sniping on everything I post and sparty, you're getting just as bad, lately.
Give it a rest.

Thanks Phizz.
Nelly always comes thru.
I wish I could vote for her.

Alana -
(1) I mentioned nothing at all about your moving and give not a whit about the reasons why.

(2) In the three plus decades this has been my home I've spoken out openly on countless community issues, participated in senate hearings, fought hard and finally obtained government funding for the STT Humane Society when it hadn't been forthcoming for several years, have been an active part of community groups, written countless letters to editors and senators and so much more.

You, on the other hand, have decided recently to make a deliberate personal attack on me with a list of half truths and untruths about me personally and now have compounded it by questioning my integrity and dedication where our community is concerned with your never-ending, "nobody does as much as I do" position.

I really don't give a rat's patootie about your personal misinterpretation of my comments but put some effort into reading comprehension and you "give it a rest" and get out of the saddle atop that high horse.

', for one, can't wait for the St Alana bust to be unveiled. When you make sanctimonious statements like "if you are part of the solution you are part of the problem" you can expect some pushback. Every post I feel like I'm supposed to answer "Yes mommy dearest". It isn't about not caring about animals as you wrongly state. It is about caring about other issues more. Writing a letter to a senator is about as worthless as signing an online petition at change.org or voting for that matter. For someone who has constantly said "cut all non essential spending" I would argue this is NON ESSENTIAL. Namaste

Yawn!
Are you both done?
St. Alana actually has a nice ring to it!;)
Thanks, let me know when and where.

Let's get back to the subject of the post, shall we?
Spending on animal control and welfare should never be considered non essential.

Spending on luxury linens, living at luxury resorts, frequently traveling 1$t class with an entourage, 5 $tar dining and hotel accommodations, armoured limos, requesting mllions to renovate executive offices, paying for a Lt. Governor's living accommodations, his trip to Rio for the Olympics, etc. are what I would consider non essential.

Not public health and safety for humans and care for unwanted animals.

I agree with all of your previous non essential spending lists. There are plenty of ways for the beloved unwanted, mistreated, and stray animals to be taken care of without using my tax money. To me. Non essential.

I checked the animal control organizations on St Thomas and St John to see how they funded their operations. St John receives no government funds. St Thomas receives a "small" amount from the government, but the bulk of funds come from their very popular flea market, donations, and other fundraisers. For the record, I organized several fundraisers for the St Thomas shelter, because it is a worthy cause and I know they are struggling.

I also checked Dept of Agr site, and at a quick perusal, don't see where animal control is one of their missions. At some point I'll go through the VI code to see if there's any legislation on animal control. If not, maybe somebody can encourage a senator to draft a bill.

A press release is not an objective "news" source, so the information should not be taken as "fact", imo.

Since I don't live on St Croix I don't know that organization at all, but I'm sure they're doing great work. If they have an online donation link, I would be happy to make a donation.

There is a difference between being unwilling and being unable.

Shouldn't animal control be under Dept of Health? Feral animals cause community health issues. I feel my tax money should go to collecting and disposing of feral animals, including chickens, cats and dogs. The Humane Society should be able to focus on adoptable animals. We need effective animal control.

In some stateside jurisdictions, animal control falls under the DOH umbrella but in many others (as here) the job is contracted out. The VI Government IS mandated to provide animal control services but trying to get them to properly fund the services has been a battle for at least the three decades I've lived here. I believe it's still the responsibility of DPW to pick up dead animals.

I just did an audit of my finances and I will not be making your bust out of typical bronze, but instead mashed potatoes. It should be done by next weekend and on display outside Jala Jala Club

You're just a jerk, sparty.

Apparently you find offensive anybody who (a) dares to disagree with you and (b) has a sense of humor.

Will there be gravy with those mashed potatoes?

No problem, Sparty. I've a lot on my plate right now but there's always room for some good gravy. :@) Can you manage some fresh garlic in those taters?

I have mucho garlico. Ok. I'm done. My little joke, which is based entirely on "essential spending", has run its course. Got to get the 2018 campaign posters started. I just need a good nickname
