this is an historic moment for St Croix. 10 years to build a road 1.25 miles long with no local money

It's amazing how big of an impact roads have on your quality of life when you think about it, isn't it?

I can't think of one single thing that would make me happier than if all of the roads from my house to my office were freshly paved when I woke up tomorrow.

In Mon Bijou it took 4 years to build a bridge over no water. It's about 100ft long....:@):S

On the north side of STT a section of someone's property caved in during a storm and rubble covered the entire eastbound lane on Hull Bay road, it sat like that for over 4 years and caused who knows how many accidents.

Any idea when the bypass will be finished and ready for traffic?

Dont get too excited...it could still take years to finish painting the lines and putting up the guard rails and such. Oh and I don't see any traffic light stuff at the two key intersections where its starts and ends. Having seen how they build roads here, the bypass will be a mess of potholes with a year.

i am glad it is finally at the paving stage, i had heard the slow up was due to the way the dirt was taking out and how the side of the mountain was shored up?? not sure if it is true or not.

i can not wait to ride on it.

It was 34 years between the proposal and the groundbreaking due to recalcitrant landowners and imminent domain issues.

I'm speculating that they laid down that strip of asphalt as a test to see how well it will stand up to the boulders falling down from the cliff above.

I have a question about the bypass.

Although it's not open and you can't drive down it. Is it trespassing to walk or ride a bike through that area?

Have to wonder how long it will stay smooth, if and when it actually gets done.
In STT they constantly fix the roads and tie up traffic for months/years then finally open both lanes to public and before long, the same road needs fixing again. These asphalt companies are never without work. Great job security!

Jamison, you're welcome. Alana, could it be water soluable asphalt they use? We have the same problem here too.

the road will stay smooth longer if people don't drive on it until it cures / is ready

I have no idea what they use!
One would expect that they would keep the road-side portion that they just worked on closed until cured as Speee1dy mentioned but we all know there is no rhyme or reason for what happens here in de tropics!
It sure would be nice to drive on smooth roads for a change and not hit 19 potholes before you get to your destination.
Then there's the 20 on the way back to avoid!
Good luck for smooth driving coming your way!
