We arrived on island three weeks ago. Purchased home in East End three years ago and just moved in. Lots of complications but people here could not have been nicer. OMG, drivers stop to let you turn, the good mornings, the good afternoons, the oceanviews and the great restaurants. Love it all. So, today I stop by a hair studio in Gallows Bay, ask the attendant ( who seems Spanish) if they do Spanish hair. She tells me to wait for the owner. I ask again, thinking that my question is pretty simple. She repeats that I must wait for the owner. Owner comes out and I ask the same question. Owner looks at me with obvious disdain, and says NO. I ask for recommendarions and she asks her attendant, again in a dismissive tone, where do YOU go? After she sees my large wedding ring rock, she then says "thank for stopping by." I will add that after I saw her make up and hair I would have never gone to her Salon, but that is not the isssue. Have lived all over the USA, never been treated this way.

What is Spanish hair?

I'm stumped!
Possibly attitude adjustment required?

Thank you so much. Will call in the am. I joke that the hardest thing about moving from DC area is saying good bye to my hair dresser of 10 years.

Don't feel bad... I was told "go back to the states white bi*@h" my first week on STX after moving here from STT. lol.

Ya just gotta laugh at people like that. It's usually a direct reflection on that person and often has zero to do with you.

Good to know about that place, I was going to go in and see what they said about my "white girl-mix" hot mess - insanely curly, completely unmanageable hair. Guess I won't.

All ethnicities have different hair. Like truly different on the way the hair shaft lays, density and direction of follicles. Its pretty interesting. Ive read a lot trying to understand my mess of a mane.. nothing helped so far lol.

Curly, unruly, abundant, and very frizz prone. Takes a very dedicated, skillful and maybe masochistic hairdresser to manage. On the other hand, the charges are so high that a good hair dresser can make a fortune. Mine in DC was netting over 120k per year.

Maybe I am latino!?!?!?! You described my mess to a T.

My hair guy in AZ who I went for 10 years made $150 a month off me.

Hi AandA2VI,
Thanks for your nice response. I do not feel bad at all. I joke w my very Mainland husband that us PR girls are tough. This reaction from the hairdresser was just a shocker. Have lived in the Deep South and never been treated in this manner. Her loss though bc I so value a good hairdresser!! Thanks again.

Get Hakko to iron your hair in the morning before he goes to work!
Low heat, paper between your hair and iron.
My sister has extremely curly hair and used to do that.
On the other hand, mine is so straight that I could leave it in rollers for 2 weeks and 20 minutes later....it might have some body.

Haha!! Ain't nobody got time for dat! When I flat iron it - it takes 3 hours to straighten and lasts about 5 hours here before the humidity make its start to curl again. Completely pointless.

Get a Brazilian blow-out if they still do them.... they work really well and last for a number of months [skips over the part where they're highly toxic]

kind of surprised at the treatment you received at the place in gallows bay. i have seen all types of hair being done and they are always nice.
