In the market for a 17-20 KW propane whole house generator. While I could ship one in I'm leaning towards finding a local dealer that offers parts and repair service.

I know Quality Electric sells the Onan brand and stocks parts, any other suggestions?

Thx!

Yes! Call Alan Meyer. Very good pricing and we've had excellent service since our most recent repair!

Stay away from Alan Meyer. I've had nothing but bad experiences with him. You might look into Antilles Power or Gallows Bay Hardware. I believe even Home Depot sells propane generators.

I had a Honda years ago that never quit on me. Easy to maintain, quiet, and great on fuel.

Is there a Honda Generator dealer anywhere on STX?

How difficult and expensive is it to convert a diesel generator to propane or can it even be done?

I have an old Lister which runs like a champ and runs everything on the property for main house and apt. but fuel tends to be expensive these days so just curious.

My main concern is finding a dealer on the island that stock spare parts and can provide service on short notice. Lots of guys who can tinker with stuff out there but I don't want to wait three weeks to receive a part from stateside when it breaks down.

HD sells the Generacs online. The main Generac website lists "Tristard" as one of their dealers on STX: http://www.tristard.com/products.html Has anyone worked with them?

Well, one can have a bad experience with a serviceman on any given day. But, Alan Meyer, did a major generator repair for us recently.

He was attentive, called back after WAPA went out a few times to check that everything was working properly. And, the cost was about a third less than other estimates. Don't generalize too much!
