I am planning to say goodbye to ohio's gray sky, and
relocate to st croix in only a few weeks! I have
someone here whos attitude on the island seems to be
as gray as the sky here. Never the less, he has
brought some concerns to light.

1. Can someone give me some true details on the
public high school? I know there are some issues, but
what exactly are they?

2. He has also told me that the island is segregated.
Either rich white, or poor black. Is this true?

3. How does one get in touch with the division of personnel?

4. Do you have mosquitos? Or any other kind of pests?

Hi Brenda,

I'l let others comment on your first two questions but I'll comment on your third question about the buggies. Yes, there are mosquitoes and they're the really small ones that are difficult to swat. Keep your house clean otherwise the cockroaches will throw big parties without your permission. Sometimes huge centipedes get lost under the sheets of a bed or in your clothes and they will bite if you come in contact with them. Fire ants can be a problem if you don't treat your lawn and they like sweet stuff, so keep your food in containers or plastic sealed bags. Fire ants bite really hard and at night you don't really know if your standing on an ant hill until they start to bite (it happened to me a couple times). There is something called sand fleas that come out at night, but I never had problems with them and I don't know if they really exist. There are no woodticks or snakes on the islands, which is a great thing.
Good Luck with your move!
M

Thank you Molly...I appreciate the information you provided about the pests!
Does anyone have any insight about my other questions...I have a sixteen year old daughter and my ex is not happy with the idea of moving her to the island. Thank you!
