Hello all!

Thanks in advance to all of you who provide so much information and helpful advice on this forum. This has been and continues to be a tremendous resource.

My wife and I arrive on STX this Wednesday for our 2nd PMV. While I understand the importance of being "settled" on St. Croix, I am nonetheless eager to meet with employers during this trip - because you just never known. I have lined up meetings (not quite interviews) with a few employers, to introduce myself and plant the seed. Does anyone have advice on appropriate "interview" attire for a male? Additionally, any recommendations/rumors on employers who are currently hiring (any kind of management position - my background is in program/project mgmt, real estate, training and travel), would be much appreciated.

Many thanks!!!

I would think a nice pair of khakis and a polo would be fine for job hunting. You can't wear yesterday's shorts and a t-shirt for the jobs you are describing, although you may find once you get a job that shorts and a polo are very accepted attire. I would doubt you need the whole suit and tie thing - only the lawyers and bankers seem to go that far...! I may be off base on this one - and I am sure someone will correct me if I am.

Hello there! If you have the chance, try to find out, as Becky mentioned, what the attire is of the people who work there. In general, dressing up a bit more shows: Earnestness and eagerness about the job, will match whatever the manager is wearing in the event that they dress a bit more than the employees, yet is not so overdressed that you would seem 'over the top'. You never want to dress a great deal better than the owner/manager/director i.e. a Brooks Bros. suit I can't imagine working anywhere on the island.

When helping people to interview, I always try to know what the general dress is of the employess is, then move up one notch with respect to it being an interview.

Hope that is helpful.

Warm regards,

Dan

Let me know how the job search goes...I'm going through the same thing right now...had the same questions about how to dress, etc. Please advise on the job market! Thanks!

When my husband was out job searching he wore the standard khakis and polo shirt or nice tropical short sleeve dress shirt. He got the job he wanted so I guess it worked fine 😉
