I will be moving to STX in May for 3-6 months. Will be renting a condo at Windy Hill with husband and dog for 3 of those months.
1. Are stamps to the states the same $.39?
2. Does anyone know of a place that we could rent for 2-3 months, furnished, allows a dog (30 lbs) for Aug and Sept? Prefer the North Coast but any help would be appreciated. Would like to pay no more than $1800/mo with utilities included.
3. Need internet access..does anyone live near Windy Hills Condos and what company would be the best for connection? Have laptop. Prefer wireless...
4. Do you think that Plaza or Pueblo has the best prices and variety of foods?
That's it for now and thanks for any help on these questions. Can't wait to move to that most beautiful island!

Hi Charlotte,
We have lived here 7 months, and plan to stay as loooong as we can! I have never heard of Windy Hill on STX. Do you know what part of the island it is on?? Anyway, stamps are .39 - all mailing is the same as in the US (but it is a bit slower).
Can't help with a rental place in Aug & Sep -sorry.
The best food prices on the island is probably Cost-U-Less. Its like a Costco or Sam's but no memebership fee.
Let us know where Windy Hill is.

Windy Hill Condos are overlooking Columbus landing, near the Anchor Dive Shop. Gated community, tennis courts, swimming pool, on the beach but higher up on the hill. They are the only ones still standing after Hugo hit in 89, so I've heard.
Thanks for your info.

interesting... I've never heard of Windy Hill condos, either, and there is no mention of them in MLS archives. Gentle Winds Condos are in that area.

Charlotte

You are describing the Gentle Winds condo development. I have never heard them referred to as Windy Hill.

Gentle Winds is a very nice, well maintained place. I would be interested where you got the name Windy Hill.

Best food prices are Cost u Less. I prefer shopping at Plaza over Pueblo.

You can get dial up internet all over the island. I don't know the wireless situation at Gentle Winds.

Currently there is no cell phone coverage or wireless internet available in the Gentle Winds/Salt River area.

Sorry for the confusion on the WINDY HILLS name. At the time I posted the question I guess I forgot it was Gentle Winds. Must be all the stress I have at my job. Luckily I will be retiring on March 31st and my brain will start working then. Thanks to all who have replied.

I do know for sure that there is wireless broadband service available in the Salt river area, & cell phones also work in certain areas. Bad information is worse than no info at all Alex!

Yes, we have friends that live in that area and do have Broadband VI high speed internet access. Also, my son's cingular phone worked in some areas. My sprint service does not.

Hmm... I have several friends with houses in the Salt River area and none of them have been able to get wireless broadband. The cell service is very spotty on most of the north shore and totally non-existent in much of that area. That will change in time, fortunately.
