so i heard the "meat wagon" sirens over in market square and went to investigate, nothing, she just wanted to get through traffic but while i was watching 3 new santo hookers came walking down the street and one of them whipped out her boob and tweaked her nipple at me, trying to either entice me or shock me and well that was gross i told my boss it was bigger than his head and i whipped out my own nipple and tweaked one of my rings at her, i mean really, so she was a bit put off that this seemingly boring white guy would do something like that

well after being forced to watch one night of network television i've come to the realization that the dumbing down of america has been completed, the tim was off tonight and in charge of the remote. i pretty much watch the west wing from 8 to 10 am on bravo and then cnn/fox/cnbc all day long and then, the smart channels or movies at night if i'm home or when i get home from work

stopped by tradewinds today to see whats left, they still don't know if they're closing or moving to another smaller location, still lots of stuff left all at half price, and i found out how the cabs work on cruise ship day,my driver yesterday was cursing up a storm about not making money on ship days so i asked my driver today what he was upset about and was told he won't spend the 7 dollars to get on the pier to pick people up,he waits outside the gates for the stragglers and never really gets anyone, outside the gate it's 16 roundtrip per person, inside the gates it's 12 roundtrip and you're gauranteed 2 van loads or an island tour

That's why Keith is the only homeless guy I give money too - he appreciates it and it usually goes for food (sometimes beer) but never drugs. I'll give others food but never money.

Darn. We loaded up with clothes from there last trip... I discovered Patagonia leather sandals, so comfy. I think they're called Skydancers or something like that if you can find them online. Christiansted used to have so many boutique shops downtown (back in the 70's), I don't know why the islanders can't support them now.

call them to tell them to stay open and just move to a smaller location, but then the owner could just be pulling a mike harris thing to get rid of inventory, it's been a half price thing since the july jump up,downtown seemed pretty busy last night, lots of cars parked on the streets

We Islanders cannot afford the clothes.

lol hbic

I try to support the local stores but even with shipping it is often much cheaper to buy on the internet. There are no clothes I have to have NOW! I buy all my clothes during late summer when they go on sale stateside. It's tough enough living here. These retailers here don't seem to think it though sometimes. It'd be much better to move more inventory at less profit and have more customers. See's much harder to have high prices and depend on just a few.

greetings and good morning

indeed downtown c-sted was jumping in the 70's...the whole of downtown to gallows bay was poppin day and night. it was a kinder, gentler world then. all in all though, downtown shopping then, as i am sure now, was always geared toward tourist dollars...it was not often i could afford anything from town...when i could i would buy silver jewlery, as that is what i love...and they really had the bomb diggity jewelry then too...hbic was correct...not many locals can afford downtown. i do remember java wraps being at least one of the places i could buy something girly when they had a sale...i am sure they are well gone by now. it is hard to live there if one is not willing to be creative and work hard....in the second week i was there, after a bad tropical storm...i climbed over fallen trees and caught a ride to town...i got two jobs that first day...selling hot dogs off a cart on the wharf and a kitchen position at a restaurant...by the end of the week i had a third job silkscreening t-shirts...so living there can be managed IF there are jobs and IF one is willing to work hard at them (kinda challenging when the stock room for the restaurant is out the side door and up the stairs to another room in the next building...lol and you have to carry all that shhheeeet back down to the kitchen)...it is a struggle though...working in town and buying in town are two different things when one lives there.

Regarding Quiet Storm's prices: Betty's right, you can get stuff so much cheaper online, even with shipping. In March, I saw some stuff I really liked there, but it was pretty pricey--something like $50 for a canvas bag. I found a store in Delaware that had the same bag for $29 and a flat $6 shipping to STX. Much cheaper. I love having stores like Quiet Storm on island, but they've got to be realistic with their pricing.

I tried to go downtown to buy something nice for a party I was attending last month. If you think the inventory is limited on "regular" clothes, you should try shopping for plus sizes. It is impossible. I wish I could buy more on-island, but for most things, it's on-line for me.

High rent, Wapa, the price to ship everything here & payroll will make the prices down town higher in order to make a profit........not that the shop keepers are getting rich these days........some are barely making it. I hope Quiet Storm will find a smaller or cheaper place.....the girls that work there are super nice & hate to see them lose jobs!

Actually rent in c'sted in not bad at all. Same or cheaper then stateside. If your place is right on the boardwalk like angry nates or rumrunners its going to be high but inside an arcade your looking at $600 to $2000ish (depending how big and how nice), less if you go up a street or two. Wapa is high but most are just running a/c 9 to 5, much like your bedroom a/c.

A business has to roll with the punches and they didn't. When the economy took a nose dive they should have gotten rid of the lillian and tommy bahama and sold other designers that were cute but cost a lot less. I mean they sale beach towels that are pretty crappy for $50.00. You can't keep doing the same things because they worked in the past when they aren't working now.

Offer specials get people in, sure your profit may go down but thats what happens in the lean times and its why you always pay yourself a salary so you can make your personal ends met. Most of these retail shops only need one extra person, to work part time on the owners day off. They are all small and not that busy.
