Charlotte, I am on the later flight. It leaves at 9 something but I am going to be at the airport and 6am and standby for the earlier flight. I am having nightmares about missing my flight.

stxmama, I will help with the stockings. I think we live close to each other. I'm in cotton valley.

trw, I am holding my breath for the next installment of the story.

Lizard, you ok?

Trade are you still missing?

Wow, I need to go to bed or I will miss that flight.

Night all.

I saw that homeless guy from the corner at the bank and was wondering that myself. You never know, he could be a writer incognito....

Well, I'm going to the casino today. My husband is playing in the poker tournament. I'll take the quarters from our coin laundry machines and run them through the slot machines. Or better yet, just take them to the cashier and cash them in, so I don't have to roll them. We don't go to the casino very often, but it's another rainy day on the big island, so why not? We actually went to the casino more when we lived on St. Thomas. We would come over on a mini-vacation and stay at DIVI, and pretty much be in the casino all night. But now that it's just a 20 minute drive, we don't bother. But the funny thing is, when we do go, we see all the same people, every time. How do they afford it?

Wish me luck!

trw - no, I don't know what might be going on at Salt River. Probably a back office handshake deal to let them dredge the mangrove protected area or some other such no-no.

They could sure use you back at your former 18-mile benefit job! I had dinner there last night with a group of people and it was a disaster. The "waitress" couldn't get orders right, dropped one guy's dinner while she was serving half the table, never brought drinks, forgot half the appetizers that were ordered, served the second half of the table after the first half was done, didn't bring place settings for 4 people until about 5 minutes after their food was served and getting cold, then double and triple billed some of the stuff and all the tabs were wrong. It took an hour more for her to get the bills straightened out. The tuna was way overcooked and distinctly "fishy" and didn't come with the side dishes stated on the menu. I won't be rushing back anytime soon, that's for sure. I did win a couple hundred on the craps table afterwards, so the night wasn't a total loss. 🙂

Supposed to be taking 20-30 Air Force flight crew members and med-evac nurses out on the Parrothead to Buck Island in a couple hours, but with the overcast and drizzle it doesn't sound like the very best day for it. I'm feeling a bit sorry for the wedding party at the Tamarind Reef as the wedding is supposed to be this afternoon on the beach.

wow Alexandra, i feel bad about that because i never had a problem with the menu there, that was one of the only things i liked about working there, well that and my boss,i guess it was all over for me when one poor woman by herself had to wait 45 minutes for a fish entree,as a waiter that is just unacceptable to me,i don;t care how busy the kitchen is it's unacceptable. I just wish my boss would get a job somewhere else so i could work for him again.

spending the day putting new pads and belts on my swamp coolers. Darn I wish I was on STX instead of Arizona. I could be diving or at the beach.

Saw the US Air plane on the ground at the airport when I dropped our houseguests off for their Eagle back, so she should be back.
We are now both miserable here with some cold or whatever our visitors brought down, plus exhaused from playing tourdirector all week while strying to get some work done on our house, etc, and now I have another major house clean-up to do. but, I'm sitting here eating the second half of an excellent dinner we had last night at Savant--visitors are not all bad!

my fathers mother was a tough woman, she was the driving force in that family, her family had been run out of albert lea in the 1900's or 1920's i can't remember the year, her father was a union man and had been trying to organize labor at the meat packing plant thus crossing paths with management and the authorities so they went up north to the iron range where they lived in dirt poor poverty for many years. She knew what it was like to be looked down on.somewhere along the line she went back to albert lea,met and married my grandfather and started farming, well he was a lousy farmer and so they went into town and he got a job working for the county until he retired in the highways department. My father was born in 41 or 42 on halloween and his brother a couple of years later. I believe my fathers problems started when my uncle was born,he was a forceps baby and they crushed part of his skull thereby causng mental retardation, you need to remember this was the mid to late 40's and that was a very taboo subject. Back in those days my uncle would have been shipped off to the state institution and forgotten about end of story. My grandmother decided to keep him at home and raise him as part of the family and thats when my fathers problems began and he made a very concious decision to turn his back on his brother and consider himself an only child,i'm sure the taunts must have been cruel,(hey are you the one with a retard brother) you know what i mean, the false sense of shame and embarrasment was obviously too much for him to deal with and so he turned his back, he did it again when his mother finally died and turned control of my uncle over to my youngest sister,he just does not want to be bothered with what he percieves as weakness. He ended up dropping out of school somewhere around the 10th grade because he had started to drink and run with the "redneck"crowd in albert lea, when he told me that he was so proud to be a redneck and he bragged about how tough he and his friends were, and well my grandmother had her hands full with my uncle so my father was pretty much left on his own and well my grandfather was there but not really,he was busy providing and all that, like i said grandma had the backbone in that house,my father said "she had ice water for blood" but then he also said that of me.

my mothers family lived on a farm with it's own lake 3 miles outside of town, they were also a very big poor farm family the 4 sisters in one room and the 3 brothers in another and my granparents in the 3rd, the 8th and oldest brother was from my granfathers first marrage and lived with his mother in town, i honestly do not know anything of their life back then, i have stacks of old ration books from ww2 but no stories about life, i know my uncles were rowdy and well in that big a family you had to be tough and loud in order to be heard above the fray, one of my aunts told me after my mother died that there was little love in that house,my granfather was 53 when my mother was born in 1940 and there were 3 more kids born after her,so he was an "old"father and a dane on top of it and my grandmother would have been in her mid 40's when she had her last child, i have a collage of about 100 pictures of my mothers family at all ages from the farm and in the pictures they look like a depression era farm family, all of the kids started out blond and then ended up with dark brown hair and there is a pic of my granfather and all the kids in their farm/work clothes and his head is held high and he has a faint smile on his face, they all ate good and worked hard, i don't think i had a "happy" grandmother, like i said earlier she was more or less cut off from her family for marrying "down", i was 23 when my mom died and i had never talked to her about her early life before my father came on the scene when she was growing up, oh i heard a few "family"stories like one of my aunts getting her butt whipped after she got caught sniffy gas(ethyl),or how grandad would lock one of the kids in a shed they called the "madhouse" when they needed to be disciplined, but nothing really about life.

so somewhere along the line my parents met,i have no idea where, how or why, maybe they crossed paths in school or at a party somewhere, my father was a very good looking young man in a fonzie sort of way and my mom was a "hottie" or so the pics i have show but they were both strong willed people and neither of them was a doormat and that turned out to be the ultimate problem in their relationship, also if you believe in astrology they were both scorpios which is a disaster just waiting to happen, i went to omaha this past year to spend time and try to get to know my father and to find out about life back in the late 50's and early 60's when he and my mother were married, divorced, married and divorced again and the man could just not bothered, he told me that my mother and 2 of her sisters were whores and that i should have died at birth like my brother because i was bothering him with questions about the past, well i stuck it out for 10 months and then came home with no answers to any questions and i guess thats fine i still have some of my moms brothers and sisters left that i can ask but i have not talked to any of them for over 20 years or since my moms funreal.

well i see that i've been edited, sorry i never thought that that was a bad word at least i know you're reading me,but with all the crap i see does that word really bother you that much? when i started this whole sobriety thing i started a personal search and that search involves honesty, redemption and god and so why you choose to censor a particular word just shows me that you do not understand, and trust me i realize this thread is only here because you allow it, i emailed you over a month ago to see if you had any problem with my writings and you chose at the time to ignore my email so please either allow me to write as i see fit or just eliminate the whole thread, i honestly do not think i'm offending anyone or being out of line. and by the way my name is Troy and this is my story.

since when is the word whore considered dirty, i can truly tell i'm living under the bush administration, and since 911 big brother has invaded everything,i'm sorry but if the word whore offends you,you have a major problem especially if you read the bible, there is more sex and violence in the old testament than i'll ever describe in my stories, it's nice to know hypocrisy and censorship are alive and well here on the islands at least i know where i stand.

lol so i see it's an ignorant blanket censorship thing,so you just change one letter from a letter to a symbol and you're allright, god how stupid is that, the meaning is the same only the spelling is different, lol how hypocritical is that it's just like the locals saying "cheese and bread" instead of jesus christ, it's the same cursing only using different words

Went out for pizza last night. Hubby and I went to Off the Wall because we knew it wouldn't be busy. The rain made everyone stay home. Dianne was freezing behind the bar. I came in with a sweater on and was also freezing. Troy, we talked about you. I haven't met you but we talked about your posts. Since you said you were in the other day I asked her if you had come in yesterday. I will meet you one of these days face to face. We talked about Kelly's children. By the way, her birthday is May 2nd.

Tammy, yeah, the airport stays cold when it's not busy there. When traffic is high all those travelers put out heavy BTU's. Sorry I missed seeing you...maybe next time.

so the last renter i wrote about was debbie the flake, the next one to come along was chris the cook, some of you may remember him from the old 54 kitchen,he was up here working at one of the north shore places and of course he met the other half while drinking one night and since he never had a car of course he needed a place to live so in he moves lol,i was still up in mpls taking care of stuff at the time so i had no say in the matter, the other half told me he was a gay guy and i asked "what? "a real one this time" you're sure he not just for a year another wanna be?" hahahaha and he told me yup he's a real homo and so it goes, so i fly down for some r and r for a week and meet him,see the other half and the dogs and go back up and then in nov 05 i came back down for good,my doctor, dentist, lawyer stuff all done, i had worked 3 jobs while i was in mpls, over 100 hours a week for a year and i had bought all new electronics for the house,a jeep for me and gave the other half the downpayment for his truck, i had also paid off the second mortgage on the house and for a 6 month period i had sent the mortgage company an extra 4000 a month towards the principle, the other half wanted me home that nov because he was up for a "tommy" award and he needed to go to the awards banquet over on stt and he did not want to go alone, so home i fly, when i get here nate the ARTIST had moved in the 4th bedroom and i have no idea where the other half found him he was a 21 year old guy from detroit that came down here to paint trees and the beach and stuff like that lol you know tropical theme hahaha i think he was a friend of haiko, so we had us 2,chris the cook and the ARTIST all living under one roof, well chris was one of these guys that knows everything, smokes way too much pot, makes sure everyone knows he only goes to work to help the owners"because they don't know what they're doing" lol you know the type and well nate smoked way too much pot and used to get deep and mystical as only a 20something guy can get and then get ARTISTY and go off and draw deep and mystical palm trees in the corner. i think chris was cooking at off the wall then when rick the jack daniels drunk and his wife kate owned the place, well he told rick off one day and either quit or got fired so then he went down to be the cook at bogeys when the gambler owned the place, so he was working 6 nights a week there and i don't remember what the ARTIST was doing,i think it was in janurary of 06 that nate moved to town because his truck as so old and beat up that he was having a hard time and needed to live in town for work, he did pizza's at the dog and then did something at the old giovannis before the one lover died so away he went, chris on the other hand continued on until april, the old owner kept forgetting to pay him because he gambled all the timeand so chris would have to wait and wait for his weekly check and was always behind, so he finqlly said the hell with it and quit, so i got him a job cooking days where i was working at the time and we'd ride together because he did not have a car, well that lasted about a month and then he started being a marytr and quit that job to go cook events at the yacht club and then wait tables at one of the hotels for a friend of his and then he moved over to shoys to be closer to his jobs, when he left he stole most of my black work pants, shoes and khaki's lol but he was gone and the house got to air out from all the pot smoke, he of course crashed at his jobs, ripped off his new roommates for alot of money and then disappeared back to the hamptons and maine, he had been down here for years between stt and stx and just never figured it out. opp i gotta go to work.
