East Ender I looked up the hospital sizes and there is not much difference. JFL is 188 beds and SRMC is 169 beds.

There was an article in the Daily News this morning.I will try to link it when it comes on-line later. It states that JFL is licensed for 113 beds and averages 72 per day. They are downsizing their Medical Unit from 20 to 15 and Surgical from 17 to 15. They don't list the size of the other units. They expect daily average to be in the low 60s.

SRMC has 37 beds on Medical and 37 on Surgical.

The story is about the dismissal of 86 LPNs and CNAs. They have 90 RNs who were not affected.

Yeah thanks. I had a private message from someone on these message boards that I have been in contact with and he sent me a link to the article. But I could not read it without subscribing. The title of the article was a little confusing so I am glad that you clairified that it was the LPNs and CNAs that were let go and not the RNs.

It does certainly mean more grunt work if I worked there which doesn't make me happy but I can do anything for a year or two. But since I found these boards I am learning more and more and I was reading up on the Hovensa closing as that meant nothing to me. And after reading about that I decided I am probably better off on STT.

That and I am hearing more and more good things about STT. Also people at school who are from STX say they see me more on STT then STX.

I think that article just made my decision for me. I just wish I could read it. I searched online using "Luis Hospital fires 86 nurses" and looking under news and there was nothing. So if anyone has it can you please PM me. Thanks!

And thanks everyone for being so helpful. Yeah I know I have changed my mind since I started this thread. The hospital on STX does have a better new graduate RN program but I am still leaning more towards STT right now because of other stated reasons.

Now I just got an email from a classmate in PR who is from STT. He said they fired the LPNs and CNAs and now they are hiring more RNs. That is good news! Still am leaning towards STT and even more so if they still have LPNs and CNAs but I am definitely not shutting any doors. I am meeting with both nurse recruiters in April.
