hello everyone
im leaving NY early sunday morning, arriving in St Thomas mid afternoon.........I have arrangements made at a hotel for only one week so I'm going to try to get everything together as quickly as possible!
I've been reading here on the message board that you bargain with the taxi drivers at the beginning of the ride...but is there some standard or general rate one should try to go by?

I'm going to set out right away on monday to begin apartment searching (probably in Red Hook for i wont be having a car in STT).....but i'd like to go to cingular and get a plan & phone....where would i find that?

If anyone has any answers and or random thoughts, do tell, I will most certainly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Don't know where you go tthe idea to bargain. The rates are set. Maybe for a tour or a special deal you can bargain, but the rates are all posted at the airport and in guide books and they have a copy in their cab.

Hello Mari,

You can find the standard published taxi rates at

http://vinow.com/stthomas/getting_around_stt/taxi_stt/

Click on the links to the various rates; airport to hotels, misc. spots on island ect...

You can get a cell phone and plan at Radio Shack... or in the Tutu Park Mall there is a Cingular Booth.

Good Luck.

Also a cingular booth at K-mart near the hospital - check from booth to booth before committing - they have different prices on phones with new contracts.

Mari,

If you want you can set up service from NY, I just got a sprint phone and they gave me a USVI (340) number, that way you dont waste anytime there. It was easy and I did it over the phone. No charge to change your number later if it doesn't work out. Mine is basically a US long distance number, no roaming, free long distance. Hope it helps if you see this before you leave.
