tadpoles in cistern

i was just told that i have tadpoles in my cistern, they are still little, just 3/4" long. this is a cistern that was just cleaned and recoated last may, and is now full, but have been putting bleach in to keep things from growing.
the contractor who is installing my new cistern cover told me to get some catfish to put in there to eat them up, and then catch the catfish.
any advice as to how to deal with this? the drains on roof have mesh to keep out debris, the overflow pipe, i'm not sure where that even goes. i'm on a hill and it just goes into the ground and i don't know where it comes out.
i wonder whether they are really even tadpoles, or some other type of critter.
thanks,
geoff

Well the good news is that they will eat the mosquitoes

Just put in more bleach till nothing is alive in your cistern. I also would not drink it till you get the problem solved, dead matter in the water will try to harbor bacteria. Fish poo would do the same thing so cat fish would fix nothing.

I would definitely find out where the overflow pipe comes out, the frogs, and other things, could be getting in there. The Tadpoles are sensitive to bleach, so I would put in more bleach, this should kill them. I have never heard of the “catfish cure” before 🙂

Where would you even get live catfish here? A for imagination though. I agree with Dante, we had simular problem. We bleached the crap out of it and recover all of our overflows. Something had made a hole in one of the old wire screens covering one of them. And well tree frogs climb...as do mice and rats so it could always be worse. Rather have the tadpoles then a dead rat.

LOL only in St. Croix do we try to solve one problem with another problem!

Catfish to catch the tadpoles...humans to catch the catfish...interesting.
