Taxes?

I remember reading somewhere that USVI workers pay regular federal taxes...no state or territory taxes or other income taxes. A guy my husband spoke to swears there's an additional tax.

So who is right?

We are of course. LOL 🙂 Well most of time 😉

We pay:

Federal Income Tax - the same as you pay in the states, however it stays in the VI. But regardless of the fact that it stays here it is still Federal Income Tax.

Medicare & Social Security (just like in the states).

We have no state taxes - because we aren't a state. And there is no equivalent like a territory tax. Just the Federal Income Tax.

We do have other taxes like property tax, hotel tax, departure tax, personal tax, road tax... in other areas besides income/working.

Thanks, Islander! This guy is like a dog with a bone! He's so blindly adamant that there's an "island tax" in addition to what US citizens pay for fed tax.
I guess he thinks he knows it all...after all he worked on STX 5 years ago. And we all know nothing ever changes in 5 years, LOL!
Pffft to him!

I wonder if he is talking about gross receipts tax? That is a tax that the wholesaler, retailer or professional has to pay on gross income (not sure if there aren't some other folks that get the joy, too. Not sure if I have explained it correctly, either!) There is no overt sales tax, but the gross receipts acts as a covert sales tax as the wholesaler etc. adds it to cost of goods.
