So I made it down without any major mishaps and all of the advice from this board was priceless. The new job is going great and I finally have my apartment all set up. Thank you all for the great help!

Hello

I too wish to thank everyone who participates on this forum. It has become an invaluable source of information for those relocating to the islands. I'm not there yet, but will be at the end of Sept. and I couldn't make the move without you guys! Thanks, again

We want some follow up posts!! Tell us how things are going, what you didn't expect, what you were pleasantly surprised to find, that sort of stuff. We are all a bit voyeuristic, y'know! 😉

That's for sure! Also what surprised you by either being more difficult or easier than you thought. I've gotten used to the way things are so your experiences will be fun to read.

The whole thing was much easier than I had thought it was going to be. But it did help that I wasn't moving much down. I just returned to the US so I don't have many "things". Also my boss at the new job was very very helpful. She helped me find an apartment from one of her friends. This place is perfect and even has its own washer and dryer! She also went with me to buy my car.

The only thing that is hard to get the hang of is finding my way around the island. These roads are confusing and I don't know all the landmarks yet. For example....where is Nisky center? It is also hard to meet new people unless you work with them or they are friends with someone you work with.

But I am working on this and am going to the chili cook off with some new people. Is anyone on here cooking?

I live directly across from the Nisky center now, just got my apartment 10 days ago or so. It's just west of town on the main road, if you drive under that catwalk that crosses the road you'll see it, it has the gym and radioshack and all that. Me and the other guy i transferred with are planning on the chili cook-off, we were just at iggie's tonight. Looks like I will have to work that sunday though, so who knows.

Honestly about 2 weeks. But this is because I had just returned to the US from Africa. So I didn't have any "stuff" to move with me and nothing to hold me back. The only thing I brought with me was a couple bags of clothes. I also applied for and got offered a job while in the states. I think it would take most people much longer than me.

Not to be nosy... well, yes, I am nosy. What type of job and how did you hook up with your employer?

I am working in a lab. My boss had posted an ad on a job board for my profession. I applied and poof I'm here!
