Thinking of moving to St Thomas

I just discovered this website and I want to thank you all for the advice given here.

My husband and I are considering a move to St. Thomas.

I am an unpublished author (though I do have an agent) and I am wondering if there is a writers community of any sort on the island. I currently work as a travel agent and I expect there won't be many jobs of that sort when we move to the island. So I am contemplating working on my novels for a time if finances allow. This would be living the dream, but I also know how isolating writing can be.

I would also like to hear about internet reliability for emails, fax, and transmitting large documents. (My novels run around 400 pages in a Word doc.)

If anyone could share information on the state of the library and if there is inter-library loan as there is in the states that would be good.

Thanks for your help

You can get high-speed internet through Innovative which is the phone company & also through Choice Communications. Here's the link to the Enid Baa library. I don't know much about it & was quite surprised, reading the website how much is available there. I've heard of a writing group but don't know anyone in it.

Thank you for this link. I can remember living in the Pocono mountains (top of the mountain) and waiting for the bookmobile to come around. You could order a book in from a regular library but it could take weeks. So it's a bit of a relief to see such an active library on St Thomas.

Hmmm and I'm wondering, there is a college on St Thomas so surely they also have a library. Does anyone know how one could borrow books if they weren't a student?
