Originally, I thought I could work, save money, move to the islands, and go to college there. I didn't really think it through and everyone here said it wasn't smart. So, I'm going to college near home for the first year or two, putting a lot of effort into my classes, then transferring to UVI for marine biology, assuming my mind doesn't change with what I want to do. I'm excited. I can't wait to get out of crappy Ohio and back to somewhere tropicallll. Does this plan seem more realistic?

Not only more realistic, it sounds much cheaper. Good luck with your new plan!

I too think that is a realistic plan, particularly since I think it is a mistake to enter college with a specific career in mind. You will be exposed to so many different courses those first two years, that you may come out with a completely different idea of what you want to do (or not). I grew up in Michigan and have an understanding of your point of view. If you want it enough, you will get out of Ohio! Patience and hard work will get you where you want to go (jeez, did I just say that? I feel like I'm channeling my mother). In any event, I wish you the best of luck in your studies and future plans.
