tonight i was so so SO excited tonite that it was 50 degrees in pittsburgh and i didnt have to wear a coat...oh geez...(actually was a fun live Rusted Root concert)...i agree with the sentiments above, though. my parents decided tonite that even if I'm not on island by next new year, we are all taking a family trip down to STT.

Ps what do you guys do for new years down there?

We celebrate the New Year the same as in the States...just an hour earlier! haha! Parties, bars, music, dancing, drinking, etc.

is there like some main festival though? like in Pgh they have a countdown wall and street entertainers, i know they do similar things in baltimore and other cities around us. is there any organized large-scale event on any islands?

On STX it is Carnival this time of year. Not sure of the schedule of events, as I am on STT, but I am sure Islander can fill you in. Or click on "Search" and put in "Carnival", search all forums.

Hello Meg,

No main festival in the USVI for New Years. I'd say the the big beach New Year's Eve party on Jost Van Dyke (in the British VI) is the closest to a big organized party with entertainment in this area.

St. Croix does celebrate its Carnival during late Dec-early Jan... didn't notice any New Year's Eve themed events in the schedule. The Carnival Village opened on the 30th. To view other local events to get an idea of what happens here check out the events calendar at:
