The VI's are named after St. Ursula and her 11,000 virgin nun followers. Christopher Columbus named them on his second voyage to the new world, in 1493. Not sure what the Caribs and Arawaks called them before he showed up.

I've never seen a goodwill or thrift shop, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

Hello Ian,

The Humane Society has a flea market:

Humane Society also runs a thrift shop on STX. Very good selection of used books.

There are several "thrift" shops here. The Humane Society is the best. Hours are Sunday and Wednesday from 2:00 -4:30. Furniture donations are not at the best. The hurricanes this year flooded them and the inventory is not back up. Clothing boutique (separate building) is worth the occasional visit. I go from time to time and pick up clothes (some still with tags) that are $2 - $6. GoodWill and Salvation Army, to the best of my knowledge, do not have shops at this time.
For furniture, there are consignment shops and then the expensive places like home Again and (Marty - what's the name of the one near Randy's?). For that sort of thing you rely again on the Island Trader. Wouldn't someone like to move here and publish an alternative penny saver?
Pamela.

Linda,

What is the location of the Humane Society shop on STX? We'll be there in Feb and would like to browse the used books. We didn't see that when we were there last April.

Pamela.

I was thinking of makeing a free classifieds web site once I get settled down there.

Would that be useful to anyone?

Hello Ian,

The couple that exist don't have much activity. The Daily News includes some of its print classifieds online, so it is the one that has the 'most'. Many folks here with used cars, apartments, yard sales stick to the print papers and some don't even do that, they put a sign roadside or on the car or put up notice on bulletin boards or use word of mouth. A few users have suggested we add a classified section to this site, its on the possibility list but still trying to measure if the usership would be there on the end of the 'sellers'.

Deja Vu is gone from Al Cohen's-Raphune Hill. It seemed to have moved to Barbel Plaza, but I'm not sure if it ever really opened...

Ian,

I'd use a free classified site - to sell and buy.
